I got the recipe off a website & made it tonight. seriously i'n not joking, it tastes just like the real thing!!!
We had it in a like a real doner in pitta bread and with loads of salad. I could eat these every day.
Here's the recipe although I used extra lean beef mince instead of lamb (was the only thing I had in the fridge)
Ingredients
500g Lamb Mince
1 tsp Oregano (dried)
1/2 tsp Italian Herbs (dried)
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
1 tsp Plain Flour
Salt & Black Pepper
Directions
Heat oven to 180C/350F
In a bowl mix the flour, oregano, herbs, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne and half a teaspoon of salt and (1/2 tsp) black pepper.
Add the mince and squish thoroughly with your hands until well and truely mixed. Use it as a stress ball and punching and kneading until there is no air pockets trapped and the kebab meat is smooooth.
Shape into a loaf and place on a baking tray.
Bake in the oven for about an hour and a half (slightly less if fan assisted), turn the loaf half way through to make sure it browns evenly.
After 1 hour 30 minutes, remove from the oven and cover with foil.
Allow to rest for a few minutes.
Slice the donor kebab wafer thin and serve with pitta, salad and low syn sauces!!!
seriously you have to try it. its well nice
