Dried fruit

In an attempt to cut back on my consumption of sweets, I recently when to the store and bought a bunch of dried fruit--mango, pineapple, apple, and cranberries. I figured I could either snack on them by themselves or add them to salads. It's working out very well for me so far. I may never go back to candy again!

That's such a good idea! I don't eat a lot of sweets, but something like that would probably help with my savoury cravings too! Last night I ended up eating a huge chunk of cucumber to stop me eating biscuits

Just be careful of sugar levels though, the natural sugars are really concentrated in dried fruit and I learned te other day that they add a lot of sugar to dried cranberries so they're not so bitter! Still a better choice than sweets though!

I don't know if they are a better choice than sweets or not. Most all dehydrated fruits have sugar added to them, plus the serving sizes are insanely small. They're like nuts, you know? It's okay if you can be satisfied with say, 1/4 cup or so, but if you're anything like me, you're going to want about twice that!

They are definitely a better choice, as long as you are only eating about the same or less calories. There are more nutrients, including a heap of iron in a lot of dried fruit.

I didn't know that they add sugar to the dried fruit. That does not surprise me though. I see sugar added to everything these days like bread, crackers, rolls, etc.

As long as I go sparingly with it, I do very well. It satisfies the sweets craving just enough that it goes away and I can carry on. I've found eating fresh fruit instead also helps. Plus, lower amounts of sugar and much better for me overall.
