What exactly is the liquid diet?

What exactly is the liquid diet?
I hear about the liquid diet often, but don't really know much about it. Is it just drinking healthy smoothies and liquids? How can a liquid diet even be filling?

I think it is just smoothies and/or fruit and veg juices. I don't know how it can be very satisfying and I don't think I could stick to it. I think it would be healthy for a few days now and then to get more nutrients, but it's definitely not sustainable in the long term.

Ah, I see. Thanks. I was curious as to what it was about. I don't think I would be able to stick to it either. I don't think I would be able to just drink smoothies and fruit/vegetable drinks. I see myself lasting maybe 2 weeks max. I'll pass.

A liquid diet is generally clear liquids. This means Jello-o, broths, water and tea. Smoothies are generally considered a solid food since they have fruits and things in them. I had to be on a liquid diet when I had my car accident and damaged my intestines. It is definitely not something that can be kept to long term.

I would last a few days max on this one! I need to have my fresh fruits and veggies in a solid and whole food form. I don't know, it's a good thing for someone in a bad situation, or trying to detox but I couldn't do it very long.

Plus you need to be careful with liquid only diets because if you are trying to lose weight and keep it off you need a long term plan that is going to be healthy for your body. I know we want quick results but it is better to take it slow so that you make your results last

The big issue with drinking your calories, other than the lack of satiety, is that these juice diets tend to be really low (if not non-existent) in protein. And unless you retain all the fibre by using a blender rather than a juicer, gastric emptying is super quick.
I really struggle to find how those liquid based diets are still going, they are a madcap thing IMHO

It means exactly what you think it means - liquid diets mean you're getting all, or at least most, of your calories from drinks. Usually, these diets are limited to fruit or vegetable juices and shakes.

Liquid diets do seem like a short term solution. I have tried the Master Cleanse and it seems better as a detox than as an actual diet. I guess it depends on whether you are looking for a cleanse or a quick hit as opposed as to a lifestyle change.
