Conflicted about protein -- too much? too little?

I have read such conflicting advice about how much protein one should consume on a daily basis. For those of us who count carbs, it's a given protein intake would need to go up.

Is 1/2 gram of protein per pound of weight excessive or is it not enough? I am confused!!

No, I think that is a good measurement actually. Unless you are going to be working out every single day like a weightlifter, then I highly suggest that you stick with that measurement.

I think that your measurement is probably pretty close to accurate. Like Avocado said, if you work out more strenuously then you may need to add more protein in.

Other than just plain eating too much in total, is too much protein a bad thing for us? I kind of thought that most people struggled to get enough protein. I'm not sure if I have ever met someone who said, "I have to cut back on my proteins"...I'm not being silly, but this just made me wonder...

It just seems like a lot of protein to me. I cut down on egg yolks because of cholesterol worries and other than chicken and tuna fish, I don't care for meat. I think I heard on Dr. Oz that more than one protein drink a day was excessive. What else could I incorporate into my diet to get my protein quota?
