Free Weights
When you strength train, do you stick with free weights or do you use the machines? I rather like the machines, although I occasionally use free weights if I want to do something the machines don't do.
I do not have access to the machines now unless I plan on getting a gym membership, I do miss them but not enough to buy my own home machine just yet. I am thinking when we move (to a bigger home) I might then, so for now free weights do just fine for me.
For strength workouts I use kettlebells. I workout at home though, not in a gym.
I use both at the gym

I use both at the gym too. I feel like I work more muscles when I use free weights. I also feel like I am doing it correctly when I use the machines. I use both each time I go to the gym.
I use mainly the machines. I am never confident enough that I am maintaining the correct form when I execute each exercise with free weights.
I use free weights because I workout at home. before my gym membership expired, I used the machines at the gym, but only occasionally. I find them physically punishing, even when the guy at the gym tells me I'm in form. I feel more in control when I'm handling the free weights.
I really want to do more free weights but I've just got the hang of dumbbell bench presses
... I was going really jelly armed!

I have never heard of kettlebells before. Are they similar to weights only shaped differently? Do they come in different sizes like weights? I am always looking for ways to change up my routine.
I use free weights at home. I'm going to buy a set of ankle weights that has compartments into which you can add extra weights, one at a time. I need to do a lot of leg lifts because of knee problems.
