Does grapefruit help you with fat loss - weight loss?
A study researching the effects of grapefruit an insulin resistance was published in 2006.
The study included 91 obese patients for 12 weeks.
The results were interesting ... to get to the point those who drank fresh grapefruit lost a larger or significant taste amount of weight compared to those who had taken grapefruit capsules and placebo capsules.
Half a grapefruit was drank before each meal.
The study reported
“There was also a significant reduction in 2-hour post-glucose insulin level in the grapefruit group compared with placebo. Half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before meals was associated with significant weight loss. In metabolic syndrome patients the effect was also seen with grapefruit products. Insulin resistance was improved with fresh grapefruit.”
So yes grapefruit before each meal does indeed increase fat loss.
What if you don’t like grapefruit, are the capsules an alternative option?
Personally based on the study I would say yes. After 12 weeks:
Those who drank fresh grapefruit had lost 1.6kg
Those who took grapefruit capsules lost 1.1kg
Those who took placebo capsules loose 0.3kg
So I guess overall those who lost the greater weight loss drank grapefruit juice or took grapefruit capsules then those took placebo capsules.
It is important to remember this is FRESH grapefruit juice and not your purchased supermarket carton or bottle.
