Hi there,

I am away for business in USA, I live in ireland.

Due to the stresses of meeting new people, working here, time zone, out of comfort zone I find it very hard to keep to a healthy diet.

Does anyone experience this and have some advice for me?

Thanks,
Rory

If the trip is short, I wouldn't worry about it. You can always get back to it when you go back to Ireland. I have never been able to stick to my diet when traveling.

I think the level is what the problem is, a large amount of free restaurant food and free drinks. It kind of knocks everything for six and I'd rather avoid it but still do the trip.

Free food in good restaurants... not something I would like to battle. I have a friend who battles the same as she is often away with work.

These days most good restaurants now have better food choices which I would try to stick to. If I didn't want to feel left out on the desserts I would go extra good dinner and have a dessert. Drinks ... business socialising, join in just drink slower and top up at the bar with some glasses of water between.

How long are you away for!

I was away for two weeks.

I did quite a good job at staying away from temptation but it mostly meant going home early myself, a bit sad I can't control myself.

But leaving early is taking control, that is how you seen best to beat the temptation of too much indulging and bad choices and did it, you could have stayed! Hopefully soon you will be able to stay to social events longer and better that control. I say well done ...

You surely need to put yourself together and be strong! Only self-control can help you! As for food, try to eat more salads and fruits for desert, avoid fried (potatoes/meat) and the most important do not drink calories!!! (do not drink lots of strong alcohol with coke for example).
