Emotional Eating

The riskiest times for me to eat the things that aren't good for me is when I am lonely or bored. I don't often just sit and watch TV either because it seems to trigger something in me that wants to eat!

I know emotional eating can be a real thing for some women, who else struggles with this and how do you combat it? I think one of the things I do (other than not just zoning out and eating while I watch a movie) is to try to identify if I am reasonably hungry (when was the last time I ate?) or if I am just needing something to make me feel better at that moment...what about you all?

I've struggled with it for years. I eat when bored or lonely. When I am really upset about something, though, I tend to stop eating. Sitting in front of the computer or television also tends to give me the urge to snack. I usually get something to sip on instead. Reading usually helps, especially if it is a book and not on the Kindle. It keeps my hands too occupied holding the book and turning pages to hold food.

It's true what you say about it being boredom or loneliness, I also can't eat if I am really upset. It's like those crummy mid-grade emotions that make me want to eat. And good observation about the "keeping hands busy" thing...probably why I want to eat when I watch TV.

I am truly an emotional eater!!! i eat when i am bored and lonley, stressed and sad. When i am busy with something i forget about the food! and this is the best and probably the only way to avoid food for me;-) so the advise is easy: find hobby! go for long walks when you have free time and have nothing to do! always be busy with something and everything will be great!

I can be a bit of an emotional eater at times too. If I'm in a bad mood I will think 'Sod it' and eat junk. But I always end up feeling worse. It's only a short term fix. I used to lose my appetite when stressed, but not anymore!
