How much fish do you eat?

My doctor said I should be eating fish a couple of days a week on my diet. The only fish I like is salmon which although good for you is high in calories. If I eat white fish I have to cover it in sauce. How much fish do you eat?

Couple of times a week, I like Salmon too, although most of the stuff you buy in the shops is farmed, so doesn't have the same quality Omega 3 profile that a wild caught fish would have.

I suspect the doc is telling you to eat more Omega 3 oils. The reality is, you are much better off trying to massively cut back on the Omega 6 oils you take onboard from seed oils etc, which are found on most packaged foods.

It is the skewed O3:06 ratio in modern eating that is the problem, you could never eat enough fish or take enough supplements to counter that, the balance is so off. Much better to reduce O6 ans try to get a reasonable amount of O3 from dietary sources.

As an aside, pasteured, grass fed meat has a good Omega 3: Omega 6 profile, so in the UK we are quite lucky. In countries where cattle etc are virtually factor farmed with no access to pasture, the omega 3 content is a lot lower

I eat it around twice a week. Mainly sardines

I remember eating sardines as a child with my father. No one else in the house would eat them, just the two of us. I haven't had sardines in so long.

I love salmon, especially made on the grill with a little lemon juice over it. Try to find wild salmon if it's available, it is much better than farmed.

I mainly eat tuna, salmon, and shrimp. I don't eat nearly the amount of fish that I used to for several reasons. One reason is because of sustainability and the depletion of the oceans. The other reasons are the mercury content and the outrageous price of good fish.

Est smaller fish, they don't have the same issue with mercury, as they are not so long lived as tuna etc.

Take supplements. Mercury only attaches for proteins, so a food fish oil supplement won't be affected, and it's micro filtered too to be sure.

Eat local oily fish like mackerel etc, no mercury issues there and plenty of good fats.

There are several kinds of fish that make me nauseated when I eat them. I seem to have an allergy/intolerance to certain types of fish and I am going to assume it is because of the oil.

I like most fish like pollock, haddock, whitefish, tuna, and salmon. I just can't stand tilapia which has no nutritional content but it's the easiest type of fish to raise in your backyard. Which is another reason you see it on every menu today. I think it tastes awful though.

Stephen - thanks for that information. I often wondered what the best types of fish to eat were. That was very helpful.

I don't eat a lot of fish. I don't really know how to cook it. I do eat shrimp and tuna though. On occasion I eat broiled haddock.
