Antibiotics and diets

I'm on a strong antibiotic for a sinus infection and feel like I need to eat all the time. If I don't eat my stomach feels sick. What's a good thing to eat to get rid of the nausea without ruining my diet.

I am not really sure that is possible. That is part of the reason I hate taking any medicine now. Either you have to take it all with a lot of food or the side effects make you sicker than your illness does.

Yogurt is the best thing to take with antibiotics because it helps replace the good bacteria (probiotics) in your stomach and intestines that the antibiotic inadvertently kills along with the bad bacteria we are taking it for.

I second yogurt. I've been told to take medications with a glass of milk before to help combat issues with acid reflux. I imagine yogurt functions the same way. I'll have to try yogurt next time.

Absolutely, you should definitely take some yogurt with it. In fact, incorporate it into your morning diet every day and you'll see a difference after a week or two. I hate antibiotics too because they make me really dry.

If you have recurring sinus infections like I used to, check if you have a deviated septum. When I got that surgery, it changed my life.

Also, look into other things that can easily kill sinus infections like MesoSilver, Oregamax and Oil of Oregano. Saline or salt nasal rinses 2X/day will also help to clear out mucous and bacteria. Can you tell that I went through this before?

Thanks everyone, I'll try the yogurt and see if that works.

Avocado, I do get recurring sinus infections and the doctor says my symptoms sound like the infection is in the sinus behind my eyes. She said the saline spray I was using probably isn't reaching the area and the sinus doesn't empty properly so the bacteria builds. It gets really painful and my eyes end up hurting.

I never knew about the yogurt trick, funny enough I eat it on almost a daily basis but I never thought to do it when sick. If it does not empty did she end up suggesting something like a Neti pot?

I have never heard of the yoghurt tip either, but I will try that next time.

When I was on metronidazole for a wisdom tooth infection, they really upset my stomach as they were such strong antibiotics.

I too haven't heard about the yoghurt tip and will keep it in mind

Bec they are the worst tablet ... Never take one after a drink thinking they are paracetamol #enoughsaid

If the spray isn't getting where you need it to go then you must invest in a WaterPik with a nasal attachment. That's what I use practically daily right now because we've had pollen levels in the 4000's this spring! WaterPik stopped selling the nasal attachment but you can still find it online if you look hard enough.

You can control the pressure and really get the salt water up there. I don't like those saline sprays either because they don't deliver enough pressure. Plus, having a water flosser will greatly reduce tartar problems.

You might have to look into deviated septum surgery, I had all my drains "re-plumbed" you could say!
