How Weight Loss Affects Diabetes

My spouse is showing signs of having type 2 diabetes. His BMI is now 25.5, but it was 34 a year ago.

Is there any hope of his increased health helping to overcome the symptoms? He's seeing the doctor for tests today, but because of his genetic tendency to diabetes (his dad, mother and father have it) we're kind of losing hope.

Weight loss definitely helps to control the spiral towards diabetes if you are pre-diabetic. I am in that boat myself, so I can imagine how your hubby must be feeling! Exercise also helps, because regular exercise improves the body's response to its own insulin. Good luck!

Surprisingly, his tests not only came back negative, they were absolutely perfect. Low end of normal, and exactly what would be expected when not having eaten in seven hours, so he doesn't have diabetes.

More tests to come, but his other symptoms are all possibly benign conditions without the link to diabetes.

Well at least he doesn't have diabetes! I hope you guys are able to find a diagnosis and treat his other symptoms. Glad the fasting tests came out well!

Thank you. He's been diagnosed with primary Reynaud's phenomenon instead, so he unfortunately hasn't got off unscathed. Dr says it's quite common in men who lose large amounts of weight.
