Dieting in the new year

A lot of people are already talking about their plans for dieting as their resolution for 2014. A new calendar with a fresh start inspires people. I do tend to get a little bit annoyed, though, when everyone jumps on and off the bandwagon so fast after January 1st. I've done it before in the past so I can't be too critical. Is there anything new you plan to do?

You know what? I stopped making new year's resolutions a long time ago because I discovered that I never stick to them anyways! So what's the point?

I say, just do the best you can. Each and every day you can strive to become better with real goals. New Year's resolutions are pretty much worthless for 90% of people.

The best part about after New Year's Day is that all the gym memberships are reduced and they have a lot of special offers. Then they get really crowded for awhile but it all dies down in a month.

The best thing to do is to have a plan of action. Don't just make the New Year's resolution - make a plan to follow through with it. If you are planning on losing weight you need to figure out how to do it. Join an exercise class. Don't buy an annual gym package. Most times you will stop going and you will lose the money. Try an exercise class that you can pay by the class or by the month. You also have to have some healthy meals planned out.

I agree with Avocado. Most of the time people don't stick with New Year's resolutions. That is why I didn't bother to wait until January to start my own journey. I think I would've set myself up for failure.

I already have my new 2014 calendar ready to go up when this year finishes. I made sure I got one with the bigger squares for writing things down. I haven't been too bad with sticking to my diet plan, but I am horrible about keeping track of things. My plan for the new year is to do better with that!

I plan to maintain with quitting smoking--it was very hard to do, and I don't ever want to go back to it!--and to not allow the rebound weight to discourage me from my weight loss goals. Just have to work a little harder at it!

I asked for small weights for Christmas so I could start doing strength training, too. I'd really like to have toned arms in 2014.

I bought a bunch of new workout DVDs as part of a Black Friday sale that was going on, so I plan to mix those new workouts in with the ones I already have. Other than that, it will pretty much be the same old, same old for me -- Weight Watchers plus my daily workouts.

I think I have decided to join Weight Watcher's online after the start of the new year. I would do it now, but my mother asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I don't really need anything else and I don't want her to spend much money so I think I will ask for a couple months of this. She can join with me.

How much does Weight Watchers cost, LaNadia? Do they run specials at the beginning of the year like so many gyms do? Sometimes I wonder if the additional accountability would be good.
