Is an avocado a vegetable or a fruit?

I admit my first answer when I read your question was a vegetable too. I'm really surprised.

I thought fruit as it has a kernel inside, which vegetables don't have.

Yer I believe that's why but in ever registered it as a fruit I think because it's green and soninautomatically associated that as veg? I know from talking to others I'm not the only one to have thought veg first when asked so didn't mind posting about it

The question actually came around when my best friend called it a fruit and her friend laughed at her saying it was vegetable ... my thoughts were it was a vegetable (I think it is the green that swayed me) but it niggled me as I was sure there was more to it and hit Google!
