How to make pasta healthier

I tend to avoid pasta for the most part because it doesn't do anything for the body but provide some energy. I know that tomato sauce is healthy. Sometimes I'll add peppers to my pasta. What else can I mix in with it in order to make it more healthy? I don't want to give it up completely but it is too unhealthy when served with just sauce.

I usually eat wholewheat pasta. I don't put sauces on it but I like to eat it with things such as mushrooms, peppers or kidney beans .

i must said i have a hard time eating whole wheat pasta...they just dont taste the same to me . ( i love whole wheat bread tho ! ) but like other said i think as long as you load your plate with mostly veggies and less pasta you should be fine . i sometimes just roasted all the veggies including small tomatoes with olive oil in the oven then mix them up with the pastas .

I agree with Befit, I'll use a lot of olive oil, salt and pepper, and leave out sauce sometimes. I don't like the whole wheat pastas either. If there is fresh vegetables available, I'll add in almost anything I can to make it healthy. Mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, chick peas, black beans, and peas.

What is whokewheat pasta? I've never heard of that. Is that specific to the UK? You guys have the funniest sounding names for your foods. I've never tried spinach with my pasta but I will give it a chance. Carrots would not work with pasta in my opinion.

It was a typo lol, I meant whole wheat - the brown stuff with carrots I grate them into the sauces, mainly to try and get more veg into my kids and OH!

Spaghetti squash is a good substitute for pasta noodles. It's really simple to make too. It's a late crop squash which should be readily available this time of year.

When spaghetti squash is cooked, you can scrape it out of the rind and it forms long strands. It is delicious.

Ha-ha . What is an "OH"? Is that some sort of British term for a husband or something? Your manners of speech strike me as being very odd. I'll have to give spaghetti squash a try. I've heard of it but have not tried it yet.
