What is visceral fat and how do you measure visceral fat? I've never heard of it

Have to ask after seeing it in Linzi's journal .... might be one I come back and answer myself later when I get time to look it up!

I have only ever heard of it in news articles. I think it is bad fat which is on the stomach and around internal organs. I have no idea how it would be measured though!

In short, visceral fat is the term given to that covering your abdominal area and major internal organs. As such, its presence around major organs poses a risk to health, largely due to the fact that excessive amounts of visceral fat can eventually lead to insulin resistance, resulting in an excess of glucose in the bloodstream, which in itself, is dangerous.
