Metabolic bursting

A friend of mine has been going on and on about how metabolic bursting is going to work wonders on his stubborn belly fat. I've only ever heard of it from him, but he says it's something more effective and shorter than interval training. He says metabolic bursting produces a certain hormone which is converted into various other things which force fat to be burned. Has anyone else heard of this or is this guy just pulling my leg?

Burst training simply involves doing any exercise, whether it's walking or leg squats, in a hard, short burst at maximum effort followed by a resting interval and then another burst. Rather than running 5 miles, you would run 15 minutes as fast as you could, walk fifteen minutes and then run again.
