Addiction

Takeaway food is taking all my money and ruining my health but I simply can't stop. Before i met my girlfriend I was lean as hell, I went the gym and ate properly until I met this girl who I only saw on the weekend. On the odd weekend down hers I would agree to have takeaway food with her because I knew I could just work it off for the next few weeks. Things ended up getting serious between us over time so we decided to live together. We still continued our little tradition of having a takeaway on alternative weekends. I also should note that I had to pack in the gym since it was too far for me to get there from where I was currently living with my woman. I didn't mind that actually at the time. So has ever more time went on I started a job which was out the city which means I would be working and coming home late for a couple of weeks. My GF decided on different days that it would be simpler to just eat a takeaway instead of cooking so late. This is where it all started. Takeaways became more frequent and I could see I was putting on weight but that didn't bother us. So each time I would come home all tired from work I would(or she) would suggest a takeaway because again it was just simpler, now we are stuck in this horrible cycle, my GF even more so. We had three takeaways this weekend! Three! Each costing around £20! I can afford this but I can't stop.

This morning I spoke to my GF about it, I told her how I felt and how reckless we are for spending such amount of money on junk food. She says starting today we will try not to order anything. I love this girl but she hasn't got every good will power but I know I could do it if she was stronger.

Any advice? Anyone else been through summit like this.

Welcome!
I’ve been in a slightly similar situation in the past, but had a more negative response when I suggested we stopped eating out all the time.

Why don’t you set yourselves a target of something to save for? Something for the house maybe, or a shopping trip for some new clothes for all that weight you’ll both lose
Put the money you would have spent on the takeaway in a jar.

Great advice from Sarahc4536 - and just think of your pleasure when you put that money to something you both really want.

Bad habits are just that bad - and can be broken with support.

Great advice above ... and liek its b even said bad habits are hard to stop but you can. Determination is needed from your part though. Reduce the takeaways to 1 a week, then 1 a fortnight then 1 a month. Will it be hard? Fuck yer b it worth it wort it worth it not only on your health but your bank balance.

Put half that takeaway money into properly food for your cupboard and half into a pot for a date night, date weekend or even towards a bigger holiday.

What is your current gym situation?
