I need present inspiration!

I really need help my girls are about to turn 4 and 5 next month and then it's Xmas after that and I'm pretty much clueless!

They're having innotabs/leappads for Xmas, which will be their main presents, probably only with a few stocking fillers/crafty bits or something, but birthdays are proving tricky!

The big one wants princess stuff, she's having a princess theme party, so I was thinking of getting her a sleeping beauty dress with accessories to wear to it (her favourite) and she's mentioned she wants the DVD, so will get that too. But in terms of a "big" present, I'm clueless! Would a 5yo appreciate a magazine subscription? She really needs some new toys, but She just doesn't seem interested, she'd rather watch tv dressed as a bloody princess I'm on the lookout for some nice easy-reader type books too, cos she's just started reading and loves being able to read to herself!

The small one's a flipping nightmare! Apparently she wants a toy version of her Aunty, so she can kiss it and tell it how much she loves it but that's all she wants! Everything she's had recently, has been broken, chewed, drawn on, you name it. So I'm totally stuck cos I just don't want to get things that'll be broken! She's a proper tomboy too, so loves all active stuff, but it's kinda the wrong season for outside things!

Help?!

Sorry I'm gonna be no help cos my DD's 4 in January and I've got the same problem!
For her birthday she's having a bike as her main present but no idea what else. For Christmas she's got kidizoom camera, books, clothes, pop up pirate game but like you, she's not got many toys but don't fancy paying for them when she's too heavy handed and they end up broken Plus I dunno what toys to buy anyway!

This buying present thing is rubbish ain't it?

It's proper rubbish I might have a word with the small one's teacher and see if there's anything she particularly likes doing when she's there! I might get her some of those wipe clean workbook things, which sound like a really boring present, but she'd love it! I was considering a bike, but it's the winter weather that puts me off! Damn winter birthdays!

Do they like to do arts and crafts? Maybe make things with clay and then paint it? I am sort of out of the loop when it comes to what the smaller kids like to do these days. Usually they like anything that makes lots of noise.

Are the cup things the ones you squeeze? The big one's been asking for one of them! Our play kitchen went to the tip, the small one kept using it as an actual kitchen and used all the accessories as potties think we may be going for a walk round toysRUs today so will hopefully get some inspiration!

The small one loves arts and crafts, but I hate all the mess
