My husband turns forty today and the kids have planned a surprise for him. They won't fill me in on it because they are convinced that I'll warn him! All I know is that I'm banned from my kitchen today and that really makes me nervous. I'll just embrace it and call it a day off from cooking.

Aw happy birthday to your hubby! It was my dad's birthday yesterday and my sister made him some amazing cakes, I think she spent most the day in the kitchen! I hate being banned from the kitchen, it makes me all jittery doesn't happen much though cos my OH only cooks once in a blue moon!

So, what happened? What was the surprise? What did the children cook? Did they make a big mess? How did the birthday go?



Ah, forty. I won't be seeing that age again. Time needs to slow down!

As far as my husband is concerned, the day was perfect. The surprise was the greasiest meal I have ever seen! They made chips and coleslaw salad and juicy pepper steak; rare, just the way he likes it. They also baked a delicious orange cake.

He was so happy because he wasn't being fed on 'weeds' - that's what he calls my healthy food diet! Well, I enjoyed the change too, but I've been counting my calories more ever since that day.

I bet he thought all his birthdays and Christmases had come at once! What is it with men and salad?!

My life began at 40 too as that's when I met my second husband! He also groans whenever I give him salad but he was glad when he lost his beer belly last year! Belated many happy returns to your man.
