Food past best before date - Yes or no?

How do you feel about eating food past the best before date (not use by date)?

I have to admit I was a bit of a snob once upon a time and would have turned my nose up but then seen the craze on FB among friends using Approved Foods (click HERE) where many items are sold past the best before date, approved for human consumption.

Anyway last year for the summer holidays I threw in an order of all sorts... drinks, crisps, goodies for the kids and even spices for our own cooking and have to say I was impressed. I keep forgetting to check up what they have.

Have you a problem eating past best before dates, does it not bother you or have you never thought about it being ok to eat some foods past the 'best'?

In theory if it looks okay then probably is. Firms often put shorter margins as they want you to remember eating there food at its best. That is the flip side though. Is it important that what you are preparing tastes the best it can or is it just something to eat?
My parents are nightmares for things like pickles. They say say use by x 2017 but also once opened consume within 4 weeks. So I decline the same jar of picalilli Christmas after Christmas

I eat some foods out of date such as bread or crisps. I don't usually eat meat or dairy out of date as Im paranoid of food poisoning. I will eat past best before dates but not past use by dates.

I used approved foods website to buy some 10 calorie soups years ago!

If it is a best before date then I see it as flexible, but if is it a used by date then I stick to it.

I love approved foods

Yes, I would eat pretty much anything if it smells and looks ok apart from meat, fish, dairy, some vegetables and desserts.

I had never heard of Approved Food before, what a great idea! Most of the stuff thrown out by supermarkets is fine.

The rare times I remember to look there doesn't seem to be enough to interest me to place an order worth while but seeing this posts has reminded me twice to look now
