work overload

I know that stress can change a diet for a person but can it totally halt any progress made? A friend of mine is trying to lose weight and it seems working too much (to me) looks like it might be the problem.

Stress does stop weight loss! Something about stress and your tummy fat. I don't know why though. I am sure someone here will know the details.

I think it's something to do with the fight/flight thing. When you're stressed you release a hormone (for some reason I'm thinking it's not adrenaline, although I'm sure it is) which inhibits weight loss. For the same reason, you should make sure you get enough sleep at night cos if you don't it'll stall your weight loss too!

Cortisol is the stress hormone. It's produced by the adrenal gland. A hormone imbalance can surely affect weight loss. Stress does a lot of crazy things to our bodies. I hope things improve for your friend soon.

Oh yes, this is very true and another reason I think many of us have a hard time losing weight. It's not impossible to change though. Easier said than done? Absolutely!

I find that having a hobby and working out really do help to calm me down a lot. Exercising works out a lot of my tension and then of course doing any kind of hobby makes me relaxed.

Stress can do strange things to the body and different people cope in different ways. Some people turn to food and some people just can't eat. If I am so stressed then it makes me feel sick and I just can't eat. Hope your friend is better soon.

I know stress severely delayed my last pregnancy but I was not sure how it works with weight. Right now I am not sure if having less stress in the persons life is possible or not, it might be a non-winning battle. I hope not though, it is a close friend of the family and I feel for them.

I would love to just pay for a two week vacation for this person but that is just not an option. How else can you keep someone other than yourself from stressing out too much?
