The price of food...

The price of food is so high these days that it is really discouraging. I try to buy all the right things; the unprocessed foods, organic fruits and vegetables, and meat that was humanely raised. It is just too expensive. It is getting harder to stretch my food budget and eat wholesome, healthy food.

This has always been a problem. Healthy, fresh food is more expensive. I think that is the biggest problem with America and obesity problems. No one can afford to buy healthy foods all the time. We try to grow our own fruits and veggies - this helps with the rest of the food budget.

I hear you! Eating healthy is very expensive. They wonder why people are overweight. Fresh foods should be cheaper. It is cheaper to buy a box of macaroni and cheese instead of making homemade. It is cheaper to buy chips for a snack over fresh veggies or fruit.

This is so true. When you’re limited by diet restrictions on things like salt or gluten, you really have to be careful about what you buy, and you have to be careful where you shop. In the summer, I buy fruits and vegetables from local produce stands. They tend to be much more reasonable than chain stores.

I'm in the same situation. Food is hardly affordable. I don't want to buy processed garbage but sometimes it is the only way to make the food money stretch from one month to the next. I spend a lot of time reading labels.

Food's ridiculous here! The cost of meat in particular has sky rocketed! We don't buy a lot of meat cos no one in the family particularly enjoys it. What I don't get though is how you could feed a family of 4 on utter rubbish (cheap chicken nuggets/fish fingers/pizza) for probably less than £20, cook a proper meal every night and you're looking at more like £100 a week

We need to go back to the days where it was more expensive to buy ready meals than fresh ingredients, it doesn't cost the earth to use your cooker and people are taught about actual cooking and budgeting in school rather than making 10 variations on the same dish and writing reports on it all!

TBH it's not surprising that recent generations have a weight problem when a Mc Donalds burger costs half the price of a salad. It's not just food, everything is so expensive which means life is so busy with work etc (to pay for everything) so people look to convenience food to save time... it's a never-ending loop

It's not hard to see why there's an obesity problem is there? If you're living hand to mouth, don't drive and live in an area that's got no supermarket, would you get the bus to a supermarket or pop to the local shop? When you get to the local shop, you can either buy 2 apples for £1 or a microwave burger that costs the same?

It is really hard making it from month to month without giving in and buying some of the cheap, unhealthy stuff. I would love to stock my pantry with foods that are healthy, but it just isn't happening.

I know what you mean about the price of food! It's ridiculous and it's also a shame that the healthiest foods are also the most expensive. That literally puts people into a position where, in some cases, they have no choice but to buy the less healthy food because it's all they can afford.
