5 Bloating Remedies That'll Finally Get Rid of That Puffy Stomach Feeling

There's nothing more annoying than slipping on a pair of jeans for date night only to realize that your stomach's so swollen, you can barely zip the pair shut. The good news? While bloating is a common symptom with many causes, there are just as many ways to get rid of it. So next time your clothes are feeling a little too snug, try one of these bloating remedies and get some relief.

1.PICK POTASSIUM-RICH FOODS.
This mineral works alongside sodium to help regulate the fluid balance in your body, keeping bloat at bay, says Abbey Sharp, R.D., blogger at Abbey's Kitchen. High-potassium foods include bananas, oranges, tomatoes, watermelon, and asparagus. That last one also contains an amino acid called asparagine that — bonus! — acts as a diuretic to flush excess liquid out of your system.

2.KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.
Beware of habits that cause you to swallow excess air, like chewing gum, as that can cause bloat, says Patricia Raymond, M.D., a gastroenterologist in Chesapeake, Virginia. If you're a regular gum chewer, cut back by sucking on a piece of mint instead, Sharp suggests.

3.CUT THE CARBS.
You don't have to quit carbs all together, but Raymond says you should lighten up your intake in the evening. Starches like bread and pasta may cause you to retain water, so it's best to avoid them before bedtime so you don't wake up feeling puff.

4.CAN THE SODA.
The bubbles in carbonated drinks can make your stomach expand. Stick to plain water, suggests Jeannie Gazzaniga-Moloo, R.D., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. As a bonus, you'll avoid these weird things that happen to your body when you don't drink enough H2O(water).

5.PREP FOR PMS.
If you tend to swell up before or during your period, be sure you're getting enough calcium (1,000 mg a day) and magnesium (320 mg daily) in your diet, Sharp says. Both nutrients have been found to help relieve PMS symptoms, including bloat. You can also pop Midol, which contains a diuretic that can help stop bloating.

Things that work for me when my stomach is bloated

Sorry I am z total newbie as of 5 minutes ago !! I
I' ve started Slimming World and have set the daunting task to more or less 1/2 my weight !! I just wanted to say about stomach bloating I have an easy method that's massively helped me with problems when my Crohns has flared up.( I have an autoimmune disease that affects my spine ,eyes ,skin and digestive system) so try alternatives to yet more pills when I can !
Just peel a nice 1 inch piece of root ginger and if you' be got a metal tea ball then great ,just crop it up and let it steep in a mug of water with a bit of sweetener or brown sugar. If you' be no metal tea ball then just ' bruise' the peel ginger by slashing it with a knife so that the juice will be released and steep in a hot mug of water and drink. If you use more ginger and put it in a pan and simmer for 10-15mins adding sweetener is Stevia, let it go cold and use it with cold water and ice with a few mint leaves as a refreshing ginger cordial
.I found ginger great for travel sickness ,period pain with a heatpad on my tummy and brilliant for pregnant women with morning sickness. The other thing is just get some fresh mint if you have some ( easy peasey to grow in a pot) or get some mint herbal tea and again its marvellous for bloating and feeling well ' windy' lol

Interesting thanks Pixie. I always bloat after certain foods and i hate it especially when I'm at work. I might look up more benefits of drinking ginger because I am sure there are some.

Welcome to Social Slimmers also x

I get bloated a lot when flying. By the end of a 6 or 8 hour flight, it can be torture.

Canning the Soda (Beer) is certainly helpful, and I agree on cutting out the carbs.

Before flying, I now have my "ritual" of eating things easy to digest, like bananas, avocado, white fish and instead of beer, I will have a white wine, or just stick to water.

The difference is amazing.

And I don't eat those inflight meals unless in business class where you get a good choice! lol

P.S Cannot comment on number 5!
