Trying so hard but is it any good?

Hi guys,

I lost a stone and a half last year on slimming world then ended up slipping back to comfort eating and have put it back on. I have been back on SW again for about a month and have lost 0.5 pound overall. I am gutted as it worked so well the last time. I am not cheating but I am doing a lot more exercise. 5-6 classes a week. My clothes are slightly loser but the scales read heavier most weeks.

Has anyone found exercising being detrimental to their weight loss? Not sure if I am doing too much or not eating enough to compensate, etc?
Is variety the key to losing on SW as I end up eating the same foods before and after class just now.

Would love to hear if anyone else had similar problems. It is really getting me down now.

Thanks.xx

Im not an expert by any means. But seems to me that all that exercise is burning the fat but producing muscle so it's not that you're not losing the fat you just gaining the muscle. If your clothes feel looser then your loosing inches. Try to messure you waste and other areas you want to loose it from and see the results that way. Weight and bmi means nothing really as long as your healthy and feel and look how you want to. Muscly men are always over their BMI but look at them!!! Haha.

We discussed this a ew weeks ago in group. We put way too much into the numbers on the scales and what they say rather than how we feel. I know the overall aim is to lose weight, but we get to a point where we are too focused on the scales and not how we feel.

In answer to your question though ( :lol ) yes, an increase in exercise does impact your losses. Do you find you ache after exercising? If yes, (more so when you started than a few weeks in) but if you did/do, then that is because of fluid build up inside your muscles as hey heal. When you exercise, you create small tears in your muscles and then when they heal you get the fluid build up.
You state you are feeling your clothes become looser, and that means the exercise is working. You’re having what SW call a Non Scale Victory.
Take some photos. And do the same a few weeks later. You’ll see the progress you’ve made.

Thanks everyone! Your words and advice have really helped. I just find it a bit soul destroying putting in the hard work and being really good with my eating and then seeing weight on on the scales. I know I should be going on how I look / feel but mentally it is so difficult to know I am reading that on the scales.
Sarahc4536, your words were really useful. I do ache after exercising, especially my legs so def something to consider there.
Love to have this outlet to come on and have a chat with like-minded people. Thanks for being so lovely and helpful! The weight thing is a mental barrier I need to get over and this has helped greatly.xx

One thing I forgot to mention, don’t stop the exercise now you’ve started. As much as it’s painful to see no results on the scales currently, as long as you are 100% on plan (including using your syns!) you will see the results on the scales
