New to SW...

Hi everyone. I am looking forward to trying this.

Did WW in 2003 and got rid of 4 stone over 2 years. WW has changed alot over the years and I thought I would try the SW instead this time. But over the years the pounds and stones have all crept back on and I am at a stage where I don't feel nice about myself. Hate going to buy clothes, etc...

Anyway I have a friend who has been doing it and she has done really well. We live in Portugal so no chance of meetings anywhere. Have done research on the internet, Pinterest, anything I can find to help me understand how it all works in order to shift the pounds. My friend is a great help as her sister comes over from time to time and brings the books and info she gets from the meetings in the UK. So I scan the info from the books and sheets, charts, etc.
And that is why I am here on this forum...to share, gain info on this eating plan.

So let me see how I get on. Got my notebook to keep a food diary so that I know what I am eating, etc.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome Bevziibubble. Your baby is so cute. I remember the days when my son was a baby...such special, precious memories. He is now 21 and out in the world getting on with his life. But he knows where home is as he always comes back to see his 'old Mum'. I always tell him less of the 'old' please.

But yes I am going to give this SW a big go of it.
xx

Hi Lindy. Nice to meet you. We just had our holiday in Portugal and absolutely loved it, you're so lucky! Anyway, have a look at the SW food journals for some inspiration, and good luck

Thanks AliCat. I am getting myself familiar with all the different categories on this site. Inspiration is what I need at the moment. Optimising my meals so that I am not eating the same foods every day otherwise it becomes boring.

We are in the Alentejo region a short drive to the Algarve.

Avocados are on offer at Pingo this week. How do they fit in with SW? Part of SP or are they Syned. Can't find it on any of the fruit charts.

Welcome to Social Slimmers

I do bring bad news however, avocado's are not a free food due to the high fat content. They are 14 syns for a whole avocado.
I do know of some people that don't count them synned if they only eat them once a week. If you decide not to count syns for them though, just keep an eye on your losses. If you notice that your losses taper off, or stop completely, and you've otherwise been on plan 100%, then look to either remove the avocado from your diet, or count the syns for it.

Thanks for avocado advice.

It was a thought to have it again. I saw a recipe with mashed avocado and mashed boiled eggs mixed up with mayo (but I would use natural yogurt instead).

To be quite honest I haven't had avocado for many years and I thought it would make a nice change. I will wait until I have lost a bit of weight and then like you say Sarah, only have it on rare ocassions.

When I was growing up my family had avocado trees in their garden. We would have it on toast or just eat a half with pepper and vinegar.

I find avocado strange texture wise... I can't eat it as it is, I find it way too weird... I love guacamole though, but luckily I only eat that on burritos, which I've vowed not to eat again

Or not until I've got a handle on my weight anyway

I suppose, IMHO, it is a fruit I can do without really.

Not only that but they are quite expensive too.
