Benefits of the group sessions

Hi all!

Quick question - how have people found the group sessions on SlimmingWorld - have they been helpful? Do they help keep you on the programme for longer?

Thanks!
Will

I'm the same as dirtydancing. I find the groups useful, especially when you've had a not so great week, and the little tips people give can be brilliant. There's also the taster sessions which can be so helpful, people making loads of dishes that you can try, and if you like them you know you can make it yourself or not if you aren't keen on whatever it is

Again, I've got a very good consultant too so that's a huge bonus!

Thanks dirtydancing and sarahc4536, really appreciate the responses!

Interesting that you mention they help when you have a bad week. I wondered if in those instances, did it become a lot harder to go along, knowing you were likely flat or up in weight?

Would be very interested in how helpful you've found the group leaders for encouraging attendance and sticking to the programme beyond the weekly class - and whether that helps at all!

to be honest with you you really dont feel like going to group when you have had a bad week and may feel like missing a week but in my opinion it can get get worse and one week will lead to another and another.

Much better to draw a line under it go to group and learn from the mistakes that you have made and also help other people in the same situation as yourself and sometimes the situation isn't as bad as you thought.

One week i thought i would have put on loads on the scales to find out that i had actually lost 2lbs in weight.

Also you actually pay to get weighed and stay for the meeting you can weigh yourelf anywhere but cant get the helpful advise from slimming members anywhere.

I went to groups with a friend at the start of my weight loss - I found buddying up really helpful and motivated me not to be the one who didn't lose weight

Our group leader would send a text to check in if we didn't go to group but personally I found on a whole it was awkward and everyone was keen to leave. I think this would change for different groups and areas though. I find the members make the atmosphere not the leader.

I have been to both SW and WW meetings and much prefer the format of WW meetings - although prefer the Slimming World plan. Currently I am a member of a group but I just get weighed a leave. I find the process of going around everyone at best boring, at worst intimidating. There was one week I'd stayed the same (it was 'star week' and I almost always do) and I didn't really want to talk about the reasons why I hadn't lost weight. I suppose that's just personal preference but it's not for me. At WW it was always more of a is anyone not happy with their result approach - so you only spoke up if you really wanted to. Don't mean to be negative- just wanted to share my reasons.

They are very valid and reasonable reasons. There are a few people in my SW group that don't talk, they just weigh and leave, but there are also some people who stay to group, but don't discuss their own losses/gains. Me being one of them. I asked my consultant to not come to me when going round the room, and the most she has done since I asked her to do that is she's asked
'Are you ok this week' I've nodded, and that's it.

I find staying to group helpful because some others come up with some good meal ideas when I'm stuck in a rut for planning. But like you say, it's all personal preference
