Green tea?

I once got told in group that if you can drink as much green tea throughout the day, this speeds up your weight loss rapidly.... Anyone else heard this?

I have. Green tea is meant to help with weight loss.
I know of a few people who were buying the green tea tablet/supplements from Holland & Barratt instead of drinking it, but they had jobs on the go and weren't able to sit and drink a cup of green tea so they used those instead

Side Effects of Green Tea Dietary Supplements
by CURTIS WALCKER

Side Effects of Green Tea Dietary Supplements

Green tea, a tea made from the leaves of a plant native to Asia called Camellia sinensis, is used as an ingredient in foods, beverages and dietary supplements. The major health-promoting benefits of green tea come from antioxidant components such as epigallocatechin, or EGCG. Research on green tea demonstrates some effects including mental alertness, reducing risks and progression of certain types of cancer and increasing blood pressure in hypotensive individuals. Use of dietary supplements should be discussed with an individual's medical doctor prior to use.

Side Effects

Use of green tea may cause nausea, vomiting, gas, and diarrhea; as well as central nervous system side effects such as difficulty sleeping, dizziness, irritability, and confusion. High doses of green tea are more likely to produce side effects in users. Green tea-containing dietary supplements should always be taken as directed on the product labels.

Interactions with Drugs and Nutrients

The caffeine in green tea can cause adverse side effects. Common drugs that may have negative interactions with green tea include amphetamines, anti-diabetics, birth control, estrogens, blood thinners, blood pressure medications, quinolone antibiotics and medications known to harm the liver. Dietary supplements or food products containing caffeine or other central nervous system-stimulating ingredients such as guarana and bitter orange should be limited with green tea. Iron absorption of food and folic acid metabolism may also be affected by green tea dietary supplements.

Interactions with Medical Conditions

Although dietary supplements are sometimes thought to reduce symptoms of medical conditions, they can exacerbate some conditions as well. Those with anemia, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, osteoporosis, clotting disorders, anxiety disorders and liver disorders should discuss the risks and benefits of green tea dietary supplements as they pertain to their individual health.

Just a thought to consider did holland and barratt ask anyone any health questions when brought they didnt ask me but as my husband has high blood pressure and is seen by a consultant he was told to avoid green tea

I know green tea is free and it's apparently one of the super foods - so it is very good for you!

I always have peppermint flavoured green tea as it gives it a better taste but still the goodness of normal green tea!

ENJOY Xx

Green tea is most helpful for our health. It makes our body fit and healthy. Green tea assists our immune function to prevent our body from harmful illness. It keeps the body and mind always fresh and healthy. Green tea is best for weight loss. It also saves heart health and protects the body from many dangerous illnesses. It burns the calories from our body and decreases the fat.

Benefits of green tea aren't hidden from anyone. But to be honest, green tea alone doesn't make much difference if consumed 2 to 3 cups every day. A number of studies have been conducted to test the theory that green tea can help with weight loss. It's important to note that most of these studies used green tea extract, not the actual tea. Drinking regular green tea may not help you lose any weight, according to a 2012 clinical study published in Obesity, which compared the effects of drinking regular green tea and a catechin-rich green tea on weight loss in a group of men and women with type 2 diabetes. While the group drinking catechin-rich tea lost a half-pound over the 12-week study period, the group drank a lower-catechin green tea gained half a pound.

I would highly recommend drinking green tea. I did it faithfully through my 8 odd stone weight loss journey and recently when I fell off my target perch and then wanted to get back there I did it again and now instead of black coffee I have green tea. I did eat well and cut the blue cheese and chocolate BUT that aside I drank lots (maybe 6 cups a day) of green tea. Result? 1 and a half pounds off 2 weeks ago. 4lbs off last week. which is pretty good for someone who has lost most of the excess weight. And the supplements? Just no.

Green tea can boost your metabolism which will fat burn but I personally would say at least 6 cups ... but other factors make a difference too. Food, water and exercise. x

The active ingredient in Green Tea is L-Theanine and it helps reduce things that can lead to binges such as stress and depression. I think it may also suppress appetite (maybe thinking of L-Tyrosine though).
