New Member with struggles

Hi there!

My name is Kaylie and today I had my second weigh in, totalling a 4lb loss which I'm really happy with.

I've been getting a lot of help from my mum who's been a SW member for years now, and I think I'm getting to grips with it.

The main struggle that I'm having is with HEXA. I don't particularly like milk or cheese. The only milk I have is a splash in coffee (but I'm trying to cut down on coffee), and I dont like cheese apart from babybel (light of course).

Does anyone else have this problem? Are any of you able to share some tips?

I use Alpro almond drink for my cereal - 500mls is a HEXA

As I only use around 250mls of almond drink a day, I also have Alpro soya just for tea. If you find the original Alpro soya too strong, go for the green carton - alpro soya simply mild - as it's especially for tea and coffee.

Alpro almond and soya is currently on offer for £1 a carton at Asda, Tesco etc. Almond is usually around £1.69+.

I don't know what to suggest for cheese replacement though. Maybe pop in your local health food shop and see if they have something suitable and if it is a viable SW alternative?

Well done on your 4lb loss!

Well done on your losses so far!
Oh, and welcome to social slimmers!

I don't like milk either, and the only time I have it is if I have a hot chocolate (like tonight)
Otherwise I live on babybels if I don't have cheese with any meal (I looove cheese!)
You'll know you can have 3 light babybel or 2 normal babybel as your A choice. And in honesty, if you like them, just have those

The one thing I will say is that although SW advise you have your A & B choice everyday to get your fibre and dairy intake, they will also advise that you shouldn't force them if you don't want them. If you feel like you don't need/want the cheese, don't force it. You'll only start to fall out with the plan if you force foods into your day
And you don't HAVE to use the full amount everyday. If you just want one, just have one
But if you have more than the allowance, that's where you need to syn the extra.

I hope my ramble hasn't confused you more!

Hi Kaylie,

Welcome to Slimming World and Social Slimmers!

I am not really a fan of cheese in its raw form (if that makes any sense) so I tend to have it melted over dishes I make in the evening (kind of the way you would to a cottage pie).

My plan for tonight is to mix 3 veg with some red kidney beans for protein and I layer slices of butternut squash on to (same way you would potato) and add a little bit of fry light and melt some mozzarella on top. That way I barely notice the cheese at all.

Failing that, I also blend half my daily supply of semi skimmed milk (125ml) with some natural yoghurt and raspberries for a breakfast smoothie. Gives me a great pick me up in the morning!

Anyway, hope either of those help.

:-D

WELCOME KAYLIE, and good luck on your SW journey.

The only advice I can offer is to make sure you take in alternative sources of calcium to substitute lack of milk and cheese to ensure healthy bones now and later in life. X

Welcome! I can only echo others, particularly Aphrodite, as calcium is super important!

A bunch of people I follow on Instagram use their HEA on the Alpro chocolate milk--would that be an option for you?

Perfect, thank you guys all so much.. these ideas really help!

Ive went out and purchased some almond milk as I actually do like it.. so hopefully that will be enough!

Another question: does anyone know the Syn value for flavoured Nespresso pods? Can't seem to find a value anywhere.

Not a clue with the nespresso, I'm not a coffee person in the slightest!
I'll ask around!

My consultant has always said be wary with flavoured coffee pods as they will contain syrups (very high syn count). It may be worth looking into the syn contact of flavourings (vanilla extract) because then you can us normal coffee and a tiny bit of extract. May be less but I am not 100% sure (I just have normal coffee).

I have the same issue - I don't like milk very much and I absolutely HATE cheese, even the thought of it puts me on edge!
If I dont' have any tea or coffee throughout the day using milk as a HE then I will have Almond Milk as I am able to stomach that
