A Fear of Failure

Hi All,

I am starting my 2nd round of Slimming World tonight. I did it for a year a few years ago and lost 2.5 stone (dropping from 16'3 to 12'12). I left because I thought I could manage it by myself and initially it worked but then the gym fizzled out of my life (financial reasons) and then complacency kicked in (its ok to gain 2 pounds) and now I just feel like it was a waste.

I am now back at 13'14 and really hope to make it work this time. My issue is when I eat healthily I just feel lousy, hungry all the time, stomach pains, tired all the time, headaches and some nausea. I don't want to fail before I have even started but at the same time I don't want to my whole life to become a state of feeling lousy.

Did anyone else go through something similar or has days like this? Any advice you can offer would be really helpful.

Hoping not to be Hopeless!

Rachel :-)

I have tried SW a few times in the past but never followed it a 100% but this time I am determined to give it a real go. My friend has lost 2 stone so that gave me the incentive to give it another go. I have lost my first half stone in 2 weeks so I am hoping to lose another Half stone for Christmas. We can do this.

I too have been waking up with headaches and feeling a bit down but I am sure it is due to the fact that my sugar intake has dropped considerably. I put the headaches down to not drinking enough water so I am trying to up my liquids.

I have increased my water in take too and note it on my food diary so I can keep a running check.

Too right, we can do this!

Firstly, welcome to Social Slimmers

And well done for keeping a good amount of the weight off You may have put some back on, but just remember the weight you've kept off too

For the hunger, try making sure you've got enough Protein foods in your meals. They are what keeps you feeling full.
Do you eat lots of pasta, rice, potatoes? As a previous member, I imagine you'll remember these should be in moderation, but not everyone does! make sure they don't fill more than 1/3 of your plate each meal time. I sometimes feel sluggish if I eat too much of them.

For the rest, like thistledown said, it could be because you've possibly changed your diet quite a bit and it's your body getting used to the new regime... Keep at it, and hopefully you feel better soon

Hi,

Thanks very much for the advice. My ex used to say I could keep Italy on business with the amount of pasta I ate but I figure if I follow the recipes on the SW website and make sure I weigh my pasta (I know strictly speaking you don't have to) then I am hoping it will get better.

Have spent most of my time since Slimming World last time in a constant state of starvation and feeling guilty about EVERYTHING I eat. Will be nice for that to change.

Hi Rachel,
Unlike yourself this is my first ever attempt at a diet.
I've always been big. 12lbs as a baby, 14st as a teenager, 16st most of my adult life, and up until a month ago I'd crept up to 17st 2lb. I'm now 61.

Now where you have an advantage over me is that you know you can do this; because you've done it before, so you can loose the same again which will lower your weight still further.

You can do it, don't argue, you can, because you already have.

Hi Paul,

Positivity is greatly appreciated but I'd like to offer some back. Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a way you want to eat for the rest of your life because dies always have a negative connotation.

I can say that Day 1 (yesterday) was not great as I was still dealing with what I had in the cupboard but after a trip to the supermarket I am fully stocked to stay on track with my food optimising and healthy extras.

Just need to hope it pays off.

Good luck Rachel- you sound like you are fully prepared!

Keep checking in for motivation- everyone here is lovely and post a diary if you can. I only manage to post towards the end of the week when I am at work, but it helps me keep on track and I love to see how other people are getting on.

Have a great week
