Healthy extras?

I'm only on my first week, I understand the plan and I've been sticking to it religiously. The part I don't quite understand is the healthy extra A and B, I know a 35g bowl of all bran counts as a heB, as does 2 slices of small hovis wholegrain......am I allowed both? eg cereal for breakfast and chicken salad sandwich at lunchtime? or am I only allowed one or the other, but not both?

Hi krh1874, welcome to Social Slimmers!

You get to chose from the A list once a day, and the B list once a day.
You can always have cereals for breakfast and bread for lunch, but you would have to syn one of them at the correct syn value.

Make sure your bread is wholemeal rather then wholegrain - although the Hovis Nimble Malted Wholegrain can be used as your B choice though - 2 slices of the 400g loaf.

By the way, some cereal amounts have increased to 40g

I was just looking at the health extra B and noticed the following

Tesco Fruit & Fibre Cereal (40g) he
Tesco Fruit & Fibre Cereal (25g) 4½

So if you have less ie 25g of cereal its syns and more is your he.

Just odd ....

What it means is that you can use 40g of the cereal as your B choice, but if you've already had your B choice that day and still want to eat the cereal as well, 25g is 4.5syns

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong and Sarah explained it much better!

It's because the 25g doesn't have enough fibre in it.
You B choice is to ensure you get enough recommended fibre per day, so the 40g allowed as the 'syn free' B choice has enough fibre in it, but the 25g doesn't, therefore you need to syn it.

That's why if you have additional A or B choices, you should syn them because you go over your recommended daily allowance
