First day back..

Good morning all,

So I went back to SW yesterday for the first time in 8 months and I have put on 1 stone and 1 pound since I last went. At first I was really upset but it has now motivated me to get back on track and start again so each day I am going to start writing my food diary on here so I cant hide anything!!

My food diary for today:

Breakfast- Light muller yoghurt (strawberry flavour)
Green tea

Snack- Green apple

Lunch- 2 boiled eggs and a salad from Marks and Spencer's (didn't get to make one last night) which contains lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber

Dinner- Roast chicken (no skin), asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower

I know it is important to still have syns on the diet- can you please help me with what sort of syns to be having as I don't want to be to naughty?!

I also bought the vegetarian cook book last night which I should be getting next week and im so excited to try it.

Morning, Rachel! Welcome back to the plan. Firstly, it's great that you're seeing your gain as motivation to get back on track.

You may wish to start your own thread in the Dieting Journals subforum HERE.

Regarding syns, it's absolutely important to have them! As SW says, they're there for you to enjoy. You can spend them on anything you want! Don't deprive yourself if there's something you really want, because it can lead to unhealthy habits and won't do much to improve your relationship with food.

However, there are 'healthy' syns you can have if you're able to stay away from those Curly Wurlys (which are 6syns for the 28g bar, by the way!). Things like dried fruit, nuts, seeds etc are all great. Nutribombz, which a lot of people talk about on Instagram, also seem to be really great--fairly low in syns but full of good stuff, and they still taste naughty!

You can also find lots of recipes for low-syn substitutes for high-syn treats online, such as the SW Ferrero Rocher (which I've made and can tell you that the flavour is very similar). That can be found just by Googling. You've also got the SW lemon drizzle cake recipe available online.

When i started SW i didn't use my syns and when i did i used them for food things, sauces and mayo but after being at group the girls told my you need to use your syns for your treats as when you get to target you never not going to have treats are you. So now i have a packet of freddos and a multi pack of french fries and they are my syns, don't get me wrong i don't have these everyday, but could as i have enough syns, i tend to have one or the other and also have hot chocolate for my syns. so i would advise you to use them, having your syns is not going to make you put on weight.

Hope this helps.

Hi both

Thank you for your advise it has really helped. I am going to buy the syn book so I can work out what I should be having for my treats. French fries sounds great though I love them.

Just looking for a bit of advise when you use frozen vegetables are they still free?

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel

Welcome to the forum and well done for getting back on track.

Looking forward to seeing some yummy vegetarian recipes.

I'm a sucker for a curly wurly or a packet of wotsits out of a multipack (think they are 4.5/5 syns)

Good luck for the week

Everyone has given great advice regarding syns, and ajmclardie is right - you really should use some syns everyday. 5 a day is fine if you don't feel like you need any as such, but if you avoid them, you might have one really good loss, but then that'll change and you'll maintain and/or gain each week.
It's all about figuring out what you enjoy, and what would keep you satisfied and avoid going off plan like a lot of us have at some stage

I'm sure once you get your head back around it properly, and you've been through the SW website for recipes you'll be right on track

One bit of advice - be careful when Googling recipes. Quite a few recipes you can find via Google, Pintrest, and sometimes Instagram, were created a long time ago and syn values have changed, but there's also the ones that use the tweaks (flourless cakes that end up being '1/2 a syn' that really aren't half a syn!) that should be synned and aren't as free as people suggest.

Yeah definitely I am going to get some freddos and French fries tomorrow as ill be having my syns at nandos for lunch which im so excited about!!
I need to try and sort out my HEs as I don't really drink milk at all and I don't have tea anymore to have it. So I am going to spend some time this weekend working out what I can have.

Ok that's a great bit of advise Sarah I am buying some of then new books anyway so I can follow the recipes off there. x
