Hi jesseplay,

My best advice is to get yourself to a group, get the books, and have the support of the consultant behind you. You may be consuming hidden syns, or your friend may have some bad habits that she doesn't realise she's passing on... There are many possibilities.

Oh yeah, it's definitely hard.

The whole philosophy behind SW is basically, it's a low-fat eating style. A lot of the emphasis is placed on making sure your meat is as low in fat as possible, filling up on speed fruit and vegetables, making sure you're eating enough protein and drinking enough water, and synned foods in moderation. It's a lifestyle rather than a diet, and it's aimed at getting you into good habits where you will develop a better relationship with food.

Hidden syns can be tricky. For instance, I've been making myself a chili con carne for months that's packed full of speed vegetables and lean meat. All that good stuff. Then I found out that the Colman's packet mix I was using for the sauce contained 7.5 syns. I'd had no idea, and it can be things as simple as that that will make a huge difference for you.

I definitely recommend getting yourself to a group, getting the books, and even if you only stay for a few weeks until you completely understand it, it'll all become a lot easier to take on board.

Hi Jesse

Great advice from Kaybird but I wondered if you could start a food journal on this site and we could help you?

I'm not on my PC but if you go to SW journals and start a new thread then just post there daily. You can look at some of the other journals for ideas too

Kaybird and StanleysMum have both given great suggestions.
If going to a group isn't plausible, what about joining online?

Whether you join a group or online, or neither if you don't want to, I would absolutely start a food diary on here and us fellow SW'ers can help out and see what advice we can give
