Something driving me crazy about EESP

Okay, so I mostly do EESP days because I've found that it results in a better weight loss and having those two HEXB options works better for me. But there's something that drives me CRAZY about this plan, and no one has been able to provide a clear answer so far.

I love the Mullerlight yoghurts. They soothe my sweet tooth, they're filling, and I'm getting in some extra calcium. But on EESP, I'm not supposed to have them because they're neither S or P.

Now that part, I understand. What I DON'T understand, however, is that you're still allowed your 5-15 syns when doing EESP. So why is it better for me to have, say, a slice of cake for 10 syns than a Mullerlight that is free on the regular plan? Most days I really would rather just have the Mullerlight.

Can anyone explain the logic behind this to me? Or am I supposed to be assigning a syn value to the yoghurts?

You can't syn something that has no syn value. It's free for a reason therefore you can't have a syn value for it.

Although you aren't meant to have any form of yogurt whilst on EESP, you could always have one of the synned yogurts instead if you really want one. Try to pick ones with the fruit underlayer (Muller only have 1 I think, but WW have some and the yogurt is quite thick) or pick one of the other varieties that has a syn value (cheesecake inspired, etc)

You could have the quark yogurts (Arla Protein as they're a P). I haven't personally tried them but I've heard very good things about them (my group rave about them!)

Thanks for your reply. I still don't really understand why it would be better to have something synned than free, but oh well. Thanks also for the recommendation of the Arla yoghurts. I eat quark every morning as the P part of my breakfast so if I was to have one of the Arla yoghurts as a snack or a post-meal dessert, do you think that would be too much quark? I'm not really bothered either way as it's yummy.

If I'm honest, I don't think I 'understand' it specifically, but I'm the kind of person that when I'm on plan properly, I stick to it ridgeway and what the plans says goes, so true EESP days include nothing except S or P foods, and no synned versions of free foods (like the Tilda rices, etc) like I know some people do.
I'm wondering if it's something to do with ensuring that you use your Syns maybe? That's pure speculation though There are so many people that avoid using their Syns because they believe they'll lose more weight quicker, but it's not true. So could be something to do with that...

I think you'd be fine if you wanted more as a snack or something. Personally I would maybe have a few berries or something with it to get some speed in too, but otherwise your fine

I really don't like SP. I found myself in a pickle one day because the only fruit available to me was grapes, and I was denying myself of them. Then I thought, hang on, it's grapes, it's fruit, what the hell am I doing?! I think it's really unhealthy to go to such extremes so abandoned the SP. The same can be said for the yogurt. To deny yourself 60 calories worth of fat free yogurt because it doesn't fit in with the plan is ludicrous, and in my honest opinion, that is where eating disorders might get started. And it is only my opinion, I don't wish to offend anyone, we're all different.

Thank you both for your thoughtful responses. I hadn't thought about it in the way that you mentioned, Sarah, where you said it is still better to have your Syns rather than Free alternatives. I have been noticing better losses recently when I've been having a few Matchmakers after dinner instead of just an Alpenlight bar or something, which is odd, but if it works, it works.

SP has been working for me for two main reasons: I get two HEXB options, and the rules are more rigid. On EE, it says "1/3 plate speed food where it makes sense", and that doesn't motivate me to get my speed foods in, whereas with SP, I HAVE to. The two HEXB options are great as well because I ALWAYS have a HEXB with my breakfast and I don't want to waste Syns on bread when I could be saving them up for my beloved cider (which I miss so much I can't even tell you).

I think I'm just going through a phase of resenting the plan as a whole a little bit. I'm sure I'll be spurred on again when I weigh myself next Wednesday (I'm skipping the scales this week as working off holiday gain) and see a loss, but I'm just finding it all a bit frustrating right now. Mama needs pizza (and not bloody cauliflower pizza)!

I understand where Ali is coming from, and that's why SW usually advise that people follow SP for a week at a time.
I'm not a fan of cutting out food groups completely, which is why I could never do SP for any longer than that, I love my pasta too much!!

And if you really want pizza, go for it. I know you said you are working off your holiday gain, but just have one, and get straight back on plan afterwards. Make it that one meal that you 'cheat' on.
It's always better to have that thing that you are craving rather than avoid it completely because that can lead to people getting fed up with the plan and going on a binge, eating 3 times the amount of Syns that you would have if you had just had the pizza

In general, I've found SW quite easy to follow as I'd cut out a lot of crap with the first 2st that I lost under my own steam anyway. You're right, I should allow myself one cheat meal a week and it's probably going to be pizza. Thanks for bolstering me a bit, it's much appreciated

Just wanted to to double check that the area protein can be eaten when on eesp.... Eventually found the, in tesco, strawberry flavour and really looking forward to it, they are 200g so quite a lot of yogurt.

Thanks

Do you mean Arla Protein?
Yes they can because they aren't a yogurt, they are made with Quark (very bland soft cheese) and Quark is classed as a Protein food.
They are 1 syn for the whole pot, and extremely tasty! I was massively impressed with them!!
