Newbie help - Healthy Option B

Hi everyone,

I have started Slimming World this week and am trying to get my head around it all. Can anyone tell me if I have 2 Alpen Light bars for breakfast and then 2 slices of wholemeal 400g bread for lunch, would the bread be a syn as I have already had a healthy B option in the Alpen bars?

I am finding myself at the end of a day with all my syns left, how do you work these into your day?

I have loved reading all your stories and seeing your photos, you are all doing fantastic! Hoping this works for me too.

xx

Hi Lassie, welcome to Social Slimmers

ajmclardie is correct, you will need to syn the bread as you thought.

With regards to how people use their syns, everyone differs. Personally I include mine in my meals - salad dressings, things like ketchup, BBQ sauce, gravy, Tilda rices, stir fry sauces (like the Blue Dragon sauces)
Or I'll just use them on treats like chocolate or crisps... or alcohol. Sometimes it's mostly alcohol
Others use them on things like takeaways of a weekend or something.

It depends on what you want to use them on. SW will never force you to use all of them, but they will always advise theat you use at least 5 a day. Some days you might only use the 5, but other days you might want to use 15. There's nothing wrong with that
Using at least 5 each day will help to stop you feeling deprived of other things.

Thank you Sarahc4536, I am starting to get to grips with it and I am so happy to have found somewhere people are so willing to help and so much advice on these forums. I was worried that I would struggle to use my syns but I used 10 yesterday and it was what you said, by using sauces, etc that helped. I would be the same on the alcohol with you at the weekend tho!

There was someonething else I wanted to ask if everyone doesnt mind, do you have to eat more if you are exercising? Most of my friends on SW dont exercise but I go to the gym and walk a lot and I think I wasnt compensating for this before I started SW as my diet wasnt bad but I wasnt losing anything. Do people up their portion size or how often they eat if exercising?

Personally I don't exercise much at the minute, but a similiar topic came up in conversation at group one night and one lady said that carbs were important as that's where you get your energy from. She tends to eat something carby before she works out, sometimes even just a banana, but she didn't mention whether she increased her normal portions or whether she at a normal meal before going to the gym...

There are a few people on here that have more experience with the exercise part than I do, I'm sure someone will be able to comment!
