New to Slimming World & Struggling

Good afternoon all,

I am still fairly new to this diet, i joined the online version so got the books etc

can someone tell me from their own experience if this sort of menu for a day is ok.
it appears to fit in fine but im concerned i tend to miss something

Breakfast - apple, banana

snack - plum / apple

lunch - brown bread with low fat cheese spread 1 sandwich

afternoon snack - banana

evening meal - rice, chicken and low fat sauce or tuna pasta bake

plus i tend to drink a lot of water and maybe 3 cups of coffee a day with no sugar and a little milk

am i way off here in terms of wanting to lose weight as this is a lot healthier than im eating and it all appears to fit in with that you can eat in a day on the diet

Thank you

Hello keane216 welcome!

It seems to be fine, but just a few tips:

- Make sure your bread is wholemeal, not just brown. And make sure you are picking the correct bread from the lists available on the website and in your books.
- Make sure you measure out your milk and/or cheese. Going over on one of these and not using it from your allowance or syns will affect your losses.
- Make sure that you have plenty of speed foods in as many meals during the day as you can, these are what help increase your losses. Try incorporating more veg into your meals, i.e. thrown in some peppers, carrots, onions, tomatoes, etc with your chicken or pasta bake. The more Speed foods you eat, the better the losses.
- Use your syns. I'm not saying you have to use all 15 each day, but you need to use some at least. If you don't use any, you may have a great loss for one week, but it won't continue and you may have a gain. Use them as you feel is necessary

Generally it looks fine, but if you need some more tips, there are plenty of meal plans in my food diary if you want to take a look (you'll find the link on the left just under my name) or have a look at any of the other SW food diaries for more ideas

Good luck, and ask if you've got any more questions, we're all here to help

Hi Sarah,
thank you so much for the quick response

glad to know i am on the right path.

I do indeed throw tomatoes and egg in nearly every meal as i like them

is it right you can eat as much potato as you want? that bit i find confusing as every other thing i read say no potato?

Ill have a look at your recipes as im keen to folow this as i can.

Thanks for your help, i shall keep you updated on progress!

Yes, potatoes, pasta, rice, you can eat as much as you like, but I always think that like most things, in moderation.
I would try to keep the maximum of these that you have to 1/3 of your plate. And then the stated 1/3 speed and 1/3 protein foods.

SW is more of a healthy eating plan and lifestyle change than a diet in my opinion, it's encouraging you to make your meals from scratch rather than from a jar or something. I find that making my own are usually tastier to be honest, no oils or preservatives

Good luck Keane I'm sure once you get your head around the plan you'll be dropping those pounds in no time! and it does take a bit to get your head around it, it took me about 2 weeks I think to figure it out properly!
And like I said here's plenty of support here for you if you need it there's a great bunch of people on here

Coming back to slimming world !!

Hi all!!
I'm coming back to slimming world after a year or so and at 5 ft 4 and 11.5 st I'd really like to get back to 9- 9.5 stone. I haven't rejoined "officially" as I will do that next week when I get paid !!😆😆😂
I've got a couple of my old books though so will make do with those as a guide for now!

Looking forward to joining in the forum and sharing tips, experiences etc. Just wanted to say hi!!

Hi. I rejoined Slimming world 2 weeks ago. First week was great 8 ibs lost! 2nd week 0.5 ib gain. This is my 3rd week. I have a terrible habit of weighing mid-week I'm currently 1.5ibs heavier again!! I just don't understand what I am doing wrong! I am sticking to plan 100% the only thing I can think of is I need to add bread/pasta/potatoes in. I've been eating meat with lots of speed (veg). Yesterday's menu consisted off: 35g bran flakes, 50ml skimmed milk. Lunch: uncle bens rice (1.5 syns) with tin of tuna & malt vinegar (save in syns instead of mayo) + muller light. Dinner: lean beef mince bolognese. With mushrooms & onion. Served with carrots, mange tout & broccoli. Snacks: Apple, satsuma, grapes & 1 frozen curly wurly (6 syns). Any ideas on what to do will be much appreciated. I've got lots of weight to lose!

Keane - looks good, just try to eat more speed foods. You've got bananas and grapes which are completely free, but I'd try to eat more speed fruit and veg too. Don't forget to syn your milk if it's only a bit, and measure your cheese

Kazzy - welcome to the forums. Good luck with rejoining next week. And at least you can make a start on following it in the meantime

Paris - don't weigh at home. 1: your scales are different to the ones at group and won't give you the same reading, 2: weighing on a different day and time will give you an inaccurate reading. You need to weigh at the same time each week on the same day. 3: your weight will change by 1-6lbs in a single day, hence the reasons above
As for your good plan, it looks like you aren't having all of your healthy extra choices. You've had your hex b, but not a choice? You need to have these. They make such a difference
Also, you haven't had any speed with either your breakfast or your lunch. You need to try to make every meal with 1/3 speed foods. Throw some berries on your cereals, and have a salad with your lunch or something.
Also, are you having many Syns through the week? Some people avoid using them as they think this will help them lose weight quicker, but it doesn't. You might have a fantastic loss the first week, an ok loss the second week, but you will get mostly gains and maintains after that. Make sure you have Syns everyday. They are there to be used and help stop any feelings of deprivation and it helps stop those days where you binge on anything you see.
Make sure you drink as much water as possible, 2 litres a day preferably (not including tea/coffee) does that help?
