SW chips

Made these for the first time tonight and have to say I'm impressed. Very easy to do, very tasty. Having a lazy day so had them with 2 fries eggs, mushrooms and tomato with a dollop of ketchup on the side. Used olive oil spray that has 2 cals per spray so allowed 1 syn for this, hopefully this will be ok.

SW chips

I love the SW chips :-) so much nicer than frozen ones!!

And the olive oil spray is 0.5 Syns for 5 sprays (I looked up the Tesco one earlier when I did my shopping!) so you're over counting by 0.5 Syns but that's always a good thing... Better to over estimate than under!

They are really good... not going to miss frozen ones at all. I did more then 5 sprays.. but under the 15 syns for the day.. so guessing even if it's another 1 I'm ok

Mine always dry out too much. How do you do yours? I've heard some say part boil and, some say microwave and some say just put them straight in the oven. If the temperature is too low they come out looking yuk but most of the time they come out dried up

What's the secret?

I par boiled mine.. probably for about 8 mins. Drained them well (prepared them and par boiled them about an hour before) then in the oven on 220 for about 15 mins then turned the oven down to about 190 as was cooking other stuff at the same time x

I think the par boiling is the difference as we used to do them without doing it and they had a bit of a skin and were dryer, IYKWIM. Perhaps it's to do with changing the texture and removing a lot of the starch. Love 'em.

I never parboil mine... I used to, but we just cook them on gas mark 8ish for about 30 minutes and they're usually nice and fluffy inside... Might par boil them next time and see how they turn out

I boil mine pretty much all the way and then shake then around int eh pan a bit to rough up the edges, then bake for 10 mins either side. I love them, I agree much better than oven chips.
