SW + Excercise = a brick wal!
A couple of years ago I did SW and lost 3st. After being comfortable for a year, i started to gain weight and put on a stone. I'm trying again for a second time and started 9 weeks ago, as it stands I've lost 9.5lbs.
3 weeks ago i introduced exercise, I've been running, going to fitness classes and generally trying to be more active Although i feel great, my weight loss has slowed down dramatically. I thought i'd see the benefits by now but i feel like I've hit a brick wall. I'm still following the plan and doing everything i have been doing before so i just don't get it.
I'm enjoying the exercise but i want to lose weight too.
It's really starting to get me down and i'm dreading going to my weigh ins now
Please tell me you've had this problem too?!
Any help/advice would be much appreicated!
Thank you

Hi!
Congrats on your weightloss so far!
When I started going to the gym, the personal trainer warned me that it would be about 6 weeks before I started to notice any difference, 12 weeks before anyone else did.
Also, you'll be gaining muscle tone, which weighs more than fat. So whilst you may not be losing large numbers on the scales, you'll probably be losing inches. I was advised to record inches along side weight for a more accurate record of weightloss
Keep going, don't let it get you down

Hi!
Thank you! And thank you for getting back to me!
Wow, ok! It's just so difficult isn't it? Putting all this effort in and feeling like you're not getting anywhere!
Tracking the inches is good, I'll start doing that. Not great for weigh in though! haha.
Thanks again!

Muscle can't weigh more than fat... 1 pound of muscle is the same as a pound of fat.
swjourney - when you start to exercise after not exercising for a long time (or increasing the amount of exercise you do) your muscles store fluid to help repair themselves between your workout sessions (this is when you ache after any exercise)
Emi is completely right about the inches though. You'll probably already be able to notice that a particular pair of jeans or work clothes or something are feeling looser than they were 3 weeks ago. Although the scales may not show the losses you want, the inches are disappearing at the same time. Give it a couple more weeks and your on the scale losses will feel more normal
Whatever you do, don't give up, you've done brilliant to get back on the plan!

You're right, they do weigh the same, I didn't explain it correctly. Muscle is more dense than fat, so burning 5lb of fat, and gaining 5lb of muscle will result in inches being lost but not numbers on the scale.
I'm rubbish with words! Sorry, my bad.

Definitely stick with the exercise. The weight may come off slower but the clothes sizes drop faster. It also means you can eat more to maintain which is also a bonus.
Wejght is definitely not everything, exercise will make you healthier alongside the weight loss

Stick with it as Emma explained muscle takes up less space than fat so 5lb fat is 'bigger' than 5lb muscle - so you'll be leaner and also the muscle burns up more fat once it's formed so it's win win. Have a google of 5lb fat / 5lb muscle and you'll get the picture.
I am also upping my exercise and not seeing the bigger losses I was but being fit and healthy eating is by far the ultimate goal. The smaller body will come.

I had an unexpected and undeserved half pound gain tonight...but just realised that I had thrown in a rare bit of exercise in the form of 32 lengths at the swimming pool...so I'm thinking this may explain the little gain.
Keep at it...I'm sure it will all come good. And a toned body to go with your new 'weight' is just like the icing on top of your 'syn free' cake! x
