Thanks for that. It is so frustrating. I was really hoping for good things this week as I have really stuck with it 100%. Do you think there are some people it just doesn't work for?

I was cynical about the plan. I have M.E. and can't exercise other than walking. I only work twice a week and take a lot of medication that isn't conducive to weight loss. However, I'm coming up to the 2 stone mark. I eat lots of carbs and use most of my syns. Sometimes I lose a lb, sometimes I lose 4. Stick with it. If you keep a diary in the food journal section we'll be able to offer support. Everyone is great

Although gains can be really frustrating you should not switch straight away. You have seen that the diet works for you already. I agree it may be related to your exercise and will probably come off with the next weigh in. Last time I was at SW and at the gym, if I exercised too hard the day before it would through my results a little, especially if I had not kept the fluid intake up very high.

I hope you stick with it even fro a few more weeks to see if it evens out. Someone once said to me it is better to look at the amount you lose in a month rather than week to week. It gives a clearer picture of your journey.

Wishing you well!

I agree with the others, but also would say that portion size must come into play at some level. the old adage of calories in v's calories out have to come into effect, as long as filling on low cal foods i.e. not tons of rice / pasta / bread then I do think it'll work for everyone.

Exercise definitely adds on weight but cuts down inches, your food looks good so it is probably the exercise that is causing the gain, you're not gaining fat though, and after a while it will peter off and you will start losing weight again

Hex B warburtons wholemeal roll, 2 slimming world sausages, butter (2syns), ketchup (1 syn). Apple

Mugshot Muller light and apple and strawberries

1.5 chicken thighs grilled in george forman and skin off, 1/2 sweet potatoe roasted and a pile of cabbage.

Muller light with a tblspn of choc shot (2 syns)

1/2 melon and cherries

45 minute spin class
Looking at this, you could probably do with adding more speed foods to your meals. Your meals should have at least one third of speed foods in it, whether it's fruit or veg.
You'd also be better adding something to your mugshot (peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc)
And are you having 2 yoghurts everyday? Having too many of them can have the opposite effect on your weight loss. Maybe cut them down to one a day?

Like the others have said, don't give up. If you look at your overall losses, you've still lost quite a bit. Everyone has gains once in a while, and sometimes we don't know why. Have you tried the EESP days? Maybe that will give you a bit of a boost? It basically means no pasta, rice, potatoes, noodles or yoghurts. But you get 2 healthy extra b choices.

Keep at it for this week, and see what the scales say next week.
Maybe start a food diary thread on here and we can help out if you need it

Thank you all. I am totally down in the dumps now as the scales said another 0.5lb on this morning!!!!!!!! What the hell!!!!!!!! Never been so frustrated. I didn't realise that about the yogurts. TBH I normally have one with each meal so 3 a day. I presumed that was fine given they are free? This is the thing I find quite confusing about SW. Some things that are free aren't really free and so on and so forth. Maybe I just need a diet that is more rigid in its rules. Can't face the weigh in today at class. Will stick with it for 2 more weeks and see where it gets me.

Could someone please direct me to where I put my journal in? Thanks again xxx

You can start a diary thread here ... Dieting Journals

Sorry you've had another gain

They still are free, but too much of something can be detrimental to your losses.
Try cutting down to 1 yoghurt per day. The amount of calcium you'll be having (including your healthy extra a) will be quite high so it could be having a negative effect.

As much as SW say eat as much as you want of all the free foods, I'm of the opinion that with regards to pasta/rice/potatoes/etc., these are the kinds of foods that should be measured. Too much of them can also have a negative effect on your losses. Some people tend to fill their plate with pasta or rice, and then when you look at the overall amounts on the plate, the pasta takes up more than the 1/3 that it should, and the speed and protein foods don't fill their respective third of the plate.

Does that make sense?

Try to stick with it a bit longer Vivienne. Your body could just be in shock at the moment. I'll look out for your journal

Hi there...

Sorry to hear you're not getting the results you would like to see.

I think that because you don't have a huge amount to lose, that may be the reason that you need to be a little more careful on the carb intake etc.

When I first began SW, I could get away with eating a lot more free food (including lots of carbs, and other non-speed free foods)...however, after losing about 4 stone, I began to plateau, and needed to begin cutting down the amount of carbs etc. I ate. I also cut my syns down to 10, instead of the 15.

Bread has been my nemesis...to the point that I have virtually cut out all bread now, using the Hifi Light bars as my HEXB choice, more often than not.

Also...weighing yourself at home throughout the week can also have quite a negative affect. Our weight can fluctuate massively day to day, which is why it is better to only weigh in once a week. I don't weight myself at home anymore....because it can really get me down if I see something I don't like, which then leaves me with the whole 'what's the point?' attitude, which usually leads me to chocolate!

Anyway...try to stick at it, and see how it goes over another few weeks. I hope you start to see the results you want.
