Ok - I can't quite believe it works....

Hello all! I've started SW online after hearing about miraculous weight losses, you don't have to calorie count etc. Last night I had a big plate of spaghetti bolognaise (SW recipe). This morning I've had lean bacon, eggs, tomatoes....does this really work? My hubs was looking at me last night as I tucked into dinner with a 'now what scam diet are you attempting?' look on his face......I'd love to hear some of your success stories with SW to inspire me, I've got 3 1/2 to 4 stones to lose

I know Ellie, it really feels like you are eating WAY too much food, but in the past I have lost 1/2st in my first week, and seriously I was eating like Pacman!

It works because the food you are eating is really low in calorie density. I couldn't believe it so I tracked calories as well as following the SW plan for a week just to check, and my calories averaged out at about 1300-1500 a day (using 10syns). Because the food is low in calorie density, it is almost physically impossible to eat enough of it to take you over the number of calories you need to be eating in a day to loose weight.

For example, you could eat 2 mars bars at 700 calories. Have you tried eating 700 calories of veg, lean meat and pasta!? You would burs (even me and I can EAT).

As you loose weight you may find in the future that you need to restrict your portions of the starchy stuff (pasta, rice, potatoes) a bit more - not weighing, but not going mad either, because as your weight goes down your total energy needs drop too.

Also, watch the syns - one syn=approx. 20 calories, so by eating all 15 in a day, you are adding another 300 calories to your total. When I had 1st to loose in the past, I found I had to cut my daily Syns to 5.

But if you have 4 to loose as you have said, you are good to go for at least a stone until you need worry about these things!

Enjoy it - god I sound like I am paid by SW, but it really does work. Don't worry about the calories, follow it to the letter and I promise you will lose weight.

Keep the faith!

Looking forward to seeing your results next week.

It absolutely does work I lost 2.5 stone, and I will completely admit I've put it back on, but it's absolutely my own fault. I had a lot of personal stuff going on and I stopped exercising, and unfortunately I fell back into old eating habits (takeaway's, lots and lots of white bread, lots of chocolate, and crisps) But I know I can get it back off again, even at just 2lb a week, that's 2.5 stone before the end of September. It's surprising how much you can eat and still lose weight

The key is to stick to the plan, but not deprive yourself of the little treats etc. so if you want some chocolate, have some! Freddo's are 5 syns figure out what your little treats are, crisps, sweets, chocolate, or alcohol (mostly this one for me Friday nights are made for it lol), and find something you can enjoy whilst still staying on plan. Don't be afraid to use your syns, if sweet things aren't your thing, use them for things like sauces (mayo, ketchup, etc) or dressings alongside main meals.
The only thing I will advise, is that as much as you can have as much pasta/rice/potatoes as you like, don't go overboard on them. Stick to weighing it out as you would have previously, and try to fill your plate with protein & speed foods. Pasta/rice are stodgier foods so you may end up feeling bloated if you're having too much of them.

It's all based on healthy eating rather than being a diet, so it's mostly a case of changing how you cook things. From scratch rather than a jar, which is healthier all round, and tastier too

I'm really hoping this makes sense to you... let me know if it doesn't lol!

Good luck on your journey and ask away if you need advice (there are lovely people on here ready to help )

It absolutely works as long as you stay within your syns. I've always said to not treat pasta, rice and potatoes as 'free' though ... IMO these should be in moderation. Give yourself some portion control too.

Good luck because hubby might not be laughing when the pounds are coming off I lost just below 2 stone with SW when I first started my health kick!

Good luck and welcome to Social Slimmers Ellie x

It really does work! I was very sceptical when I started but now five months later I have lost 3 stone (22 weeks according to my consultant.)

Just stick with it; my husband thought I was mad eating so much, but he's come around to the SW way and has lost 1 stone 4 in the same time (and that's with only eating SW style means at tea time. He even has Macdonald's and chips!)

Yep - it certainly does work.

I have always loved my food, resulting in being a size 26/28 at my biggest...

however, by following SW's Food Optimising Eating Plan, I have still been able to eat plenty of food (just now mostly free/speed foods) and never feel hungry, resulting in me now - 11 months later - being 6 stone 3lb lighter, and now shopping for size 16/18s.

I've still got a way to go, but I'm confident I will get there, as I now seem to have changed the whole way I look at food, and food optimise without really having to think too much about it.

I just have to keep a track of my syns, and everything else just comes naturally.

Good luck with your journey.
