First week - scared!

Hi everyone,

I'm a long-term WW-er (boo hiss, I know!) and I had lost 3st at New Year 2014, but for some reason I really slipped and I can't get a grip. I regained 21lbs and so a girl I work with suggested SW, as she was joining with her sister, who has lost 4st in nine months.

I'm really enjoying the plan but I feel like I'm constantly eating! I can't possibly lose weight like this, can I? Today looks like this:

B: Baked oatmeal with cooked apple and topped with brown sugar (HEXB + 2 syn per portion), fat free Activia, milk for oatmeal and coffees (HEXA)

L: Homemade ham and lentil soup, Walkers Pops (4), another Activia

D: Salmon fillet, baby potatoes, roasted asparagus, 1tsp melted butter (2)

S: 2x small bananas, handful of grapes, handful of strawberries, mugshot

I'm eating so much and I can't get the WW points system out of my head, as I'm so used to telling myself that I can't have any more. Please tell me I'm not going to get on the scales and see a big fat gain on Tuesday!

Jess

Hi Jess

I'm the same. Because I make most of my meals with syn free ingredients I don't feel like im dieting so much. In fact I use most of my syns on stupid things, or save them up for the weekend

Looking at what you have on todays menu has suddenly made me really hungry

How does the ww points work? Are they a bit like syns?

You'll be fine on Tuesday

Thanks for your response!

On WW you're allocated a daily allowance of points, which are like syns. It's based on your sex, height, weight and age. You also get an extra 49 points a week, which you can use as and when, either on hungry days or to blow on a big meal. Once you've eaten your points, you can't eat any more.

It boggles my mind that I can eat anything on the free list at any time! If I'm hungry, I can eat it! Without working it into my day beforehand! Haha

haha. I would be crap on ww. I can barely plan what I'm doing 5 hours from now let alone having to calculate if I'll have enough points to eat at the end of the week
You already seem pretty clued up on your menu in your first week, although I bet it helps to know someone else already on it. Do you go to the same group to the girl at work?
I'm still muddling along. I just get stuck in a rut eating the same menu every week Need to get some new recipes

Yeah, I always planned my entire menu three days in advance... it was exhausting!

I've always cooked from scratch anyway so I don't find SW difficult but I'm having to double-check everything for syns as I'm so used to being able to eat anything at all, as long as I pointed it but now I'm combing through my book for every ingredient! I'm not worried though, I'll learn it all soon enough and I've found loads of lovely free/low syn recipes to try out

Unfortunately I can't go to class with the other girl as we live in opposite ends of Glasgow but my local class it great and the leader is lovely.

Hi Cherrybomb,

Welcome to Social Slimmers

When you freely eat coming down to strict and portion controlled meals is hard but once you've got through that bit it gets easy, you've got to push yourself. You probably got to that part previously on WW?

What ingredients are in your baked oatmeal, just oatmeal apple and sugar? Could you use honey instead of brown sugar, syned or not its less refined and more natural and has health benefit (all in moderation of course) I have honey in porridge or overnight oats. Oats are slow releasing so should really keep you going until lunch time along side a coffee of course, not something I cut back on easily.

I personally would try and exclude the walkers pops from lunch on this example.

Dinner to me sounds good

Snacks: I would consider limiting your snacks ... maybe to one snack between meals if necessary. What are the times you are eating breakfast, lunch and dinner? Have you tried melon? I sliced and cube them for when I'm feeling peckish (although I keep forgetting to buy one lately). What about making a dip to go with things like celery, carrots, cucumber and peppers etc? this is one of my favs Click HERE, if made with natural yoghurt even better (which is what I use now).

If cooking from scratch you will find most ingredients free ... can't go wrong on veg, stock, veg, tin tomatoes, beans, etc. What kind of meals are you cooking from scratch.

I say it all the time but the 'free' pasta, rice and potatoes I don't agree with, cut down with the mind 'everything in moderation' IMO, not free.

Opinion just based on my own journey of course, hope some of it helps

I know what it's like to slip like that. I did something similar, but once you start putting back on it's so hard to get things in check. Totally undid everything I worked so hard to lose. Is why I'm here too

Good luck for tuesday. Let us know how it goes

First of all, I hate honey. I always have. I try to eat a fairly clean diet but I still include some things because they're nice, hence the brown sugar. Not everything I eat is just for health and nutrition!

The Pops, I won't exclude because I've tried strict diets with no little treats before and I go off the rails. A daily syn-ed pack of low fat crisps won't do me any harm.

I'm only eating two bananas today because I have a grueling bootcamp class after work, I don't eat them when I'm not working out. My strawberries, grapes and mugshot are eaten as a single snack at 3pm. I eat at 8am, 12pm, snack at 3pm and dinner at 8pm.

I don't eat pasta and I still weigh things like potatoes and rice because I don't want to go overboard with them.

Thanks for your reply but I've already considered and vetoed everything you've suggested myself through experience
