How to shrink linen?

I have a pair of trousers that are half linen and half viscose. I bought them several weeks ago but haven't worn them much then, when I tried them today, they are too big! Whilst I'm pleased that my clothes are getting looser, I really like these and would love to be able to shrink them to fit. Any ideas?

A very hot wash would do the trick, although it might shrink them too much! And would probably shrink them length ways too!

I have to report a big SUCCESS! I put my white pair in a 90 degree wash, then finished them off in a hot dryer. They have shrunk a whole size and only slightly in length, which is fine as they were a little long. I'm now about to do the same with my beige pair. Thank you for the advice.
