Days off

Hi there! I'm following Slimming World religiously at the moment, ever since the New Year and I'm losing weight, 6 lbs so far this month. Anyway, I've always usually given myself one day off every month... I personally don't see why not, it's nice to just forget about it for a day, and kind of give yourself a reward for your good behavior, haha Plus I'm sure I've heard it's actually good for you because it stops your body from getting too used to your current eating schedule and therefore slowing weight loss down, and actually keeps it guessing, which can potentially lead to more weight loss (is that correct?)

Anyway my question was, what do you guys do every month? Do you have a day off, or even two days off a month? One day off is nothing, when you think about it, it's 12 days a year, lol! But I have before given myself two days off... I usually have one in the middle of the month and one at the end of the month (so it's not too close together). Would this actually be okay, or should I just stick to one? Someone pointed out to me, that means I'd be having a day off once every two weeks, which sounds a little more excessive than 12 days a year, lol. So anyway I'd like to hear some of you guys' advice if thats okay? What do you suggest?

Well done on your loss so far!

Wouldn't once every two weeks be 24 days off plan a year?

Personally I don't plan to have any days off, I can go off track easily as it is, never mind planning a day to go off track I'd never get back on it
But then again, if I want something when I'm on plan I'll have it lol

I'd say that having a day off every so often wouldn't be a bad thing, depending how off plan you went
As for your body getting used to what you're eating, that's why you should change your meals around to mix it up. Say if you had weetabix for breakfast for a few weeks, change it for yogurt and fruit for example. That helps too x

I'm only just returning to SW and I know how easily I've been able to get off track before so 'days off' are a nono for me right now! I'm finding that I'm content and full with the food I'm eating and I still have my treats with my daily syns so I don't yet feel that I want time out. One of my work colleagues has weekends off the plan but I don't know how that is affecting her weight; she has actually reached her target. Personally for me I would prefer to stick with the plan but again I'm only a week into returning!
Perhaps as SarahC says, mix your food up a bit and try different combos
Good luck!

Taking a "day off" sounds too much like being on a diet instead of a healthy eating plan. In my mind diets are for only a certain length of time, restrictive, leave you hungry, cause cravings and, even if you do lose weight, as soon as you come off them the weight piles back on. One of the reasons I joined Slimming World was because Extra Easy was a healthy eating plan for life instead of a diet.

I stick to plan, but if I feel like having a pudding while out for a meal, I'll have one, syn it, and enjoy without feeling guilty. I don't crave chocolate or cake because, if I really wanted it then I'd have it, no need for a whole day off plan.

Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't work for me, but if taking a day off once a month works for you, then that's fantastic!

I don't have a day off because once i'm off.. thats a green card to just eat and eat and eat more alllllllll week until the next monday where i get back on it! its soooooo hard getting back on after a binge day/week.

i'd love to be one of those people that can have just the 1 cheat meal. unfortunately.. i'm a go hard or go home kinda gal ;D

After my initial post...i'm going to have a day off at the weekends for a month and see how that goes. I've also been very conistipated the last couple of weeks; I spoke to a GI nurse specialist and she said that cutting out the fat would be a key factor in this; I should reintroduce a little fat as it motilises the gut and to cut it out altogether wasn't a great idea. I don't intend to sabotage my weight loss just try and relax a little one day at the weekend and stay on plan all the other times
it makes me a little cynical to think that the emphasis of slimming world is to cut out fat, make us more constipated to make us weigh more!! perhaps I'm just being paranoid!

Hi could you flexi syn? Have low syns the week you decide too have a treat and have higher syns at weekend but keep within your weeks total.
If you had five a day for five days that would leave 80 for the weekend as a once in a blue moon or for a special occasion I think it could be ok

It doesn't cut out all fats, it just cuts out the unhealthier fats.
Your Syns are there to be used and most use them to have some fatty things still in their diet.

The emphasis of SW is to change your eating habits and eat healthier by cooking meals from scratch rather than using processed foods with unnecessary oils and sugars in them.

You can still have things like takeaways and still stay within your Syns for the week.

Like mummybear suggested you could flexi syn. Flexi Syns are when you pick a limit of Syns for a day and once you hit that limit you go back to non-synned foods.
You don't have to reduce how many Syns you use on other days, SW suggests that you go back to plan as normal the day after using your usual 5-15 Syns a day.

I know I can't plan for days completely off plan as I really struggle to get back on plan afterwards. This week is proof of that.

I'm going to reintroduce semi skimmed milk and low fat instead of fat free yogurts. I owl eat the muller yogurts as I like the taste but on a Saturday we always have fish and chips baked in the oven and while I made the SW version last week and enjoyed, I still like the old favourite and what's more, mum does the cooking on a Saturday and I don't want her put out. It may mean I just reduce my Syns on the other days, will see how it goes...thanks for feedback 😀
