Homemade potato crisps/chips

I've had a craving for crisps/chips lately but I wanted to do them as healthy as possible. I washed the potato really well and then leaving on the skin I sliced it very thin. I used some spray oil on a sheet pan and laid them out in a single layer and sprinkled on some sea salt.

They weren't quite as crispy as I would have liked them to be. Next time I'll leave them in to cook a little longer. They did come out pretty tasty and satisfied my craving without having all kinds of processed ingredients like the store bought kind. It made for a nice lunch with some tuna salad.

I've never actually tried making my own crisps before which is surprising as I'm a total crisp addict! I'll have to give this a go sometime

Did you boil the potato beforehand? I've never tried to make my own homemade potato chips. I've had fresh potato chips from a restaurant before. They were unbelievable. I will have to give this a go.

This is an interesting idea. I bet that if I make them myself, I will be able to just eat a few, instead of a whole bag. What temperature did you cook them at, and for how long?

I had the oven on 350 and took them out after about 45 minutes. They didn't crisp up as much as I wanted so I could have left them in there longer. I guess it is going to depend on the potato and how much oil you use. I used spray oil, but tossing them lightly with olive oil may have been better and they would cook faster too. You'll have to experiment.

Befit - I tried them with sweet potatoes before! They were good, but again, I could not get them to get crispy!

Are you slicing them with a knife or a mandoline? I think that to get them really crispy, you will need to slice them very, very thin. I think that your idea of tossing with a tiny bit of olive oil would be good, too.
