Soy Milkshakes
Has anyone substituted soy milk for regular milk in their shakes? I don't tolerate dairy very well and have been thinking to change to soy milk, but I haven't tried it yet. Do you find the taste is very similar? Or does it have a "unique" taste?

It tastes different, but not in a bad way iykwim? You could try almond/hazelnut milk too which would give it a nutty twist.

They also make vanilla flavored milk substitutes. I think the one I am thinking of is actually almond milk, like Princess Pikachu suggested, but it's vanilla flavored so it would probably be perfect for a "milk" shake.

Thanks, I have a question about almond milk. Do you guys know if a person is allergic to almonds (which I am), will almond milk be problematic? I've always been afraid to try it, for obvious reasons.

I use rice or almond milk in mine and add some fruit in the shake or eat a piece a fruit following the shake. I don't find rice/almond milk as filling but certainly healthier.
Katie I would guess the answer is yes it would be problematic ... From the alpro website:
"Allergies
Contains almonds and may contain other nut traces. Dairy, lactose and dairy free. Suitable for vegans & vegetarians"

Really? What kind of allergy is it? You don't have an anaphylactic reaction do you?

I'd guess it probably wouldn't be the best idea to try it! Although, a friend of mine has an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts, but not peanut oil. So it could be similar? I wouldn't risk it if there's a chance of anaphylaxis though!
Off the top of my head, others are rice, oat and quinoa xx

Mitch, I do. I can't even go near them without my tongue and throat swelling. Well, I can, but even if I LICK one, it's bad news. I have to be very careful.
I do like rice milk, maybe that is a better option! Thanks guys!

I use rice milk too, vanilla rice milk in decaf coffee. Today I bought a coconut milk by alpro to see what that's like in coffee.
