Master Cleanse?

What you do all think of the Master Cleanse idea for dieting? It's where you drink a mixture of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. I used to do it as a cleanse (detox), years ago, but has anyone used it to actually lose weight?

Not a big fan of these type of diets. Doesn't seem to be based on any science. Bit too faddy for me

A lot of people say that they are effective. However, there are also lots of people who are not successful because people only crave. I guess a balanced diet and a heavier exercise will still be the best combination. It does not have to be a whole day of exercise. Allotting 2-3 hours is already enough.

The best thing to do is find an eating plan that is sustainable, enjoyable, fits your lifestyle, and results in steady FAT loss over time. Anything else is pretty much pointless, you are not going to be able to, or want to stick with that for any length of time, nor are you supposed to.

Exercise is crap for weight loss, the amount you need to do to lose a pound is horrible, but it is good to add in for the health benefits and little extra fat burning once your diet is in check.

I would prioritise it this way

Diet > Non Exercise Activity (walking etc) > Structured Exercise

Knowing your calorie intake, knowing the protein fat and carb make up for those calories, creating a modest deficit, walking plenty and exercising 3 times per week for no more than 45 mins to an hour will give you all the fat loss you need. Exercise is great, but optional for fat loss.

This may seem contrary to what you have heard, read, conventional wisdom, but I assure you it is true.

I'm not a fan of them because I think they are a short term solution for something that needs to be long term. You can use it to cleanse, but don't use it as a way to lose weight.

I guess you all are right, when I used them to cleanse years ago, they were super effective! It's probably just my impatience with losing weight that makes me wonder if it might be a quick solution. But I think you're right Stephen, go the smart and steady route and it will have better results long term. Thanks everyone!

I personally do not like this program and it mostly has to do that the mixture sounds very unappealing on the taste buds. There are plenty of healthy, good tasting fruits and veggies that one can mix up in a blender that will do the same and have a more appealing taste.
