How can anyone do a diet that discourages eating fruit which is nothing but healthy for you? They are the only people who push this nonsense.

Surely there are better diets out there...

Different diet plans suit different people. I have not done Atkins however I never really ate fruit so it isn't something I would have missed so maybe this plan suits others the same!

From what I have read it is only phase 1 that Atkins diet doesn't allow fruit, this is to keep your carbohydrates down as you are limited. Phase 2 of the Atkins diet introduces certain fruits to your diet that are low in carbohydrates.

Fruits can be packed with carbs, Atkins is a low carb diet slowly introducing more into the diet the closer you get to maintain.

*Answer only based on my understanding of the diet, I could be wrong.

The problem with fruits is that fructose is used by the body efficiently. Many animals in nature will gorge themselves on fruit before they hibernate as it is a great way to build fat reserves. While the odd piece of fruit has great health benefits it needs to be remembered it still counts as sugars and will quickly replenish your glycogen reserves so you don't burn your fat stores. If your glycogen reserves are full it will turn straight to fat. Obviously the fitter you are larger your glycogen store is likely to be so the more you can eat without worry. For a sedentary bloke like myself there are times when it would be much better to eat bacon than an apple as mad as it sounds. Believe a lot of it is due to uric acid? As an interesting aside cherries are supposed to have something in them that counters the bad effects so should be able to be eaten. I tell myself that everytime i tuck into a Bakewell
