Hello :-). New Slimming World Attendee in the South West England
Hi All,
What a fantastic forum/community.
My name is Matt, I am 37, living in the South West area.
I have recently joined Slimming World with the goal of losing some weight and continuing to improve myself and health lifestyle. I have recently hit my heavist weight ever, 16st 11.5 lbs and I absolutely hate the way I look and feel about myself because of the fact I have let myself go like this. My body feels rubbish, inside and out, it has affected my physical and mental energy, impacts on my concentration and focus etc, and knocked my self esteem for 6.
Last week I said enough was enough I've decided to do something about it, so I joined a local Slimming World group and took the plunge.
My inital goal is to get down to 12 stone. I will see what I feel like when I get there. I don't think i've been 12 stone since my early 20's.
During the group session I did wonder how much outside support there was and how much I would end up having to go it alone. I logged on to the Slimming World website and was disappointed to see there was no forum/community on there. I think they do it all via Facebook, and to be perfectly honest I don't want all my friends and family seeing the group info in my profile or masses of posts on my wall, I like to keep most of my life more personal.
Last week was my first session and whilst is was warm and welcoming there seemed to be a lot of time devoted to reading out the weekly weigh in results and giving warm support to everyone, rather than having kind of features etc or time for tips and suggestions.
I thought that I would google 'Slimming World Forum' to see if there was anything else out there as online support and community, and this site came up. It took me only a few minutes to decide to join as it a looks great. I love the fact you can share ideas, ask questions when stuck, look for inspiration and also keep a personal journal for dieting and fitness to share your journey.
Hoping to be a regular contributor to the forums and connecting with others soon.
Cheer for reading.
Matt

Great to meet you Matt. You'll find lots of us do different diets but we all support as best we can. Slimmingworld website is great for finding out syns and things but I thought it would be better to have a forum. Facebook is good, you're friends and family won't be able to see your posts unless they're on the slimmingworld group aswell so it can be a bit open. Good luck to you, Hope you do well.

Hiya, thanks for the hi .
I didn't realise they were closed groups on Facebook. I might have another look, but I think this wesbite looks great for a community.

Welcome Matt
Elshe is right, the Facebook group that is created by your consultant should be a closed group. I'm not sure whether anyone can see that you're a member of that group, but They 100% won't be able to see anything you post in that group unless they are a member.
But now you've found us, we're all here for you now too As you'e already seen, there are plenty of threads on here for recipes, questions, food diaries and most other things you can think of Feel free to ask whatever you want, we will do our best to give you as much as help as you need, and the support is great on here

Hi All,
Thanks for coming by and saying hello, I really appreciate it.
Just weighed in after my first week so am going to update my journal thread on the forum.

Hi Matt
Welcome to Social Slimmers. Your target is totally doable and you WILL feel physically and mentally better for it going on what you've said.
Have you considered mini goals vs that one big long goal? It really helped me. I had 3 things that kept me going:
- The clothes size down
- The next stone down (it was half a stone as time went on the weight decreased slower)
- Basic measurements (fattest part of tum, around belly button, fattest part of thigh, fattest part of arm, neck)
Good luck!

You are completely right.
I am currently focused on my club 10 weight which is 15.2 that is my first really target. You could say I have a sub target of 15.7 also as a transitional target to get to my club 10, small steps all adding up.
Also in my focus is dropping from a 36' waist to a 34" and moving from XL to L shirts and 18" to 17" shirt collars.
