New to SW

Hi everyone,

I joined my local Slimming World group a couple of weeks ago. This is my first time joining a slimming club and I have a very long road ahead of me, but I'm determined to stick at it and get healthy.

I have had chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia for many years which means that I cannot really exercise. I also have an under active thyroid which makes me prone to putting on weight. For years I've used all this as an excuse for getting fatter and fatter.

The CFS leaves me exhausted all the time and if I over exert myself one day then I'm much worse for days afterwards. It's never been pleasant, but over the last few year I've found that I have even less energy than I ever have before, unable to stay awake for more than an hour or so at a time or to do the simplest task without suffering for it later. I have noticed this all coincides with me putting on more weight and my diet getting worse (generally not eating all day and then stuffing my face with junk food). So I came to the conclusion that I had to make some changes.

I decided to join Slimming World because I liked that it was based on healthy eating, not just counting calories and depriving yourself, so should help with my energy levels as well as helping me lose weight. Plus several of my friends were/are members and raved about it.

I've been sticking to the 'diet' (I hate calling it that as it's more changing your eating habits for life) for the last few weeks and so far so good. It was horrible to see my weight on the scale that first week (17st 11.5lbs ) but was great the second week when I found that I'd lost 8lbs!

It's hard to believe that I am eating more than I ever have and am actually losing weight.

Anyway, I've rambled on more than enough. I tend to be a bit of a lurker on forums and seldom post, but I'm going to make a concerted effort to join in more as I think it will really help. Everyone on here seems really friendly and a great support to each other, so I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi thistle. Welcome to the forum. I'm new here and everyone is great so far. I've also got fibro/ME and started a thread in the health, family and well-being section if you want to join us there.

HI and welcome Thistle!
WOW at your 8lb weight loss for first week, bet that felt amazing. I just congratulated you in the July 2015 challenge thread but didn't realise you'd got your half stone award on week 1! Fantastic.

Welcome Thistle (I didn't realise you had a hello thread )

Good luck on your Slimming World journey
And we call it a plan rather than a diet in my group... a diet is more restrictive, this is a healthy eating plan where you can have the treats etc. included

Welcome! That was a fantastic first loss!

I also have fibromyalgia and it is tough to find the energy.

I also joined slimming world for the healthy eating plan as I thought it was more sustainable in the long run!

I look forward to seeing how you get on, and I believe we both weigh in on a Monday! I am sure this next week will be a good one for you.

Hi thistle sounds like you're doing really well so far, keep up the good work
I'm new to slimming world as well and I'm really enjoying all the meals I've made so far, doesn't really feel like a "diet" does it!!
