What do you eat or drink after a workout?

I drink a protein shake (1 scoop in water) and usually try to get some carbs too.

Today I blended in some strawberries to the protein shake and it was lovely

What do you tend to eat or drink after a workout?

Shakes for brekkie but my workouts seem to be working around lunch/dinner nicely lately.

- Gym days is late morning so back for omelettes scrambled egg etc
- Run club 8pm I try and eat dinner early 4/5
- Running on my own Fridays I'm back to make a lunch
- Boot camp 6.30pm either my main meal afternoons then a small snack and a small lunch meal when I get back or as norm and my main when I get back depending what's happened that day!

I have heard that for 20 min after work outs you have so called "curbs window". It means you can eat anything you want (cakes, ice-cream, donuts) and it won't hurt your figure! Has anybody heard about this too??

I have heard about a protein window where you apparently have to have protein within 30 minutes of working out or your workout will be a waste. I think this has been disproven though. I thought that the carbs window was for the rest of the day after working out for some reason!

Wouldn't make sense to me to exercise then eat cakes and donuts ... but have heard something about spiking insulin. I think it depends what your goal is on what type of foods you eat. Body builders would have a different food plan compared to someone who wants to lose weight maybe? Not totally sure on the ins and outs but know I've seen bits and pieces of information among various pages/articles.

Think I might look into this but it would be empty carbs to me.

I don't usually eat soon after a workout, my body doesn't seem to like it very much. I drink tons, what I drink depends on the weather. If it's been a crazy hard workout or it's really hot outside, I will drink an electrolyte sports drink. But if it is just normal and I don't feel the need for "replacements", then I just chug water until I'm full.
