Going to the gym: Should I take a personal trainer?

Hello everybody! tomorrow is a big day for me! I am going to the gym;-) Just wanted to ask for advice guys. Should i take a personal trainer or should i try first to do everything myself? Who has an experience of working out with personal trainer? Is it worth of money? Thanks for any help!!

I think it's worth the money if you are going to take it seriously. Some people think hiring a personal trainer is going to take the work out of "working out."

Just keep in mind that not all personal trainers are alike either. Find one that you really connect with and one that motivates you. Maybe you can find one with some good reviews online or a personal recommendation from a friend or coworker. Monitor everything to see if you are getting the results that you want as well.

When I started the gym I got five free personal trainer sessions. I only used three of them in the end but I did find it very useful as they told me what kind of exercises to do, the types of weights to use, how many reps, what kind of speed to do on the cardio machines etc, so I think that they are very useful. Some gyms provide personal trainers there but they can be quite pricey.

Good luck for starting at the gym!

Our gym has privately paid one to one training sessions but also free PT sessions, I believe they are compulsory for your safety, OH refused a PT session and he had to sign he was willing to go it alone. They give you a personal workout for your goals and when I've finished the card I can book in again for a new workout.

Good luck on your first day

Good luck ! really depend on the person if you have really no clue about the gym its good to take personnel trainer to show you around and what to do...some people who knows there stuff sometime wait a bit and take one once they hit a plateau or wants to get specific results

have fun !

If you don't have any idea you can take personal trainer. But, there are so many magazines that provide you good workouts to follow or even on you tube. I went four times a week and I had a personal trainer for a while and he truly helped me get into the very best shape. I think its up to you.

Shame you don't live in Dorset. I'm a personal trainer, but I don't necessarily recommend them :-) In my experience, the reality is that for almost everyone, aa basic barbell or resistance training routine that focuses on push. pull, quad dominant, hip hinge exercises, and perhaps a little core work is all that is needed.

You see so many personal trainers that have people balancing on BOSU balls, and swiss balls, doing all manner of fancy stuff, and for no real reason.

Unless someone can plank for 3 x 2 minutes without collapsing, what is the point in adding instability on an unstable surface, it's pointless, and what trainers do to demonstrate how clever they are.

If you want any advice on exercise choices, drop me a line.
